Find within my post where the word prefect is and i'll paypall you 100 bucks right now.

I don't expect anything to be prefect, but when a 1990 has less problems in 3 years than a BRAND NEW CAR in a month, like most are saying in here. Something is wrong.

But you just sound like your looking for a fight, so I'll do the mature thing and leave you be. I'll just PM people who know what they are talking about, thanks for the help.

Mazda Recall

I am one of those types of people who doesn't take things to heart, I have to find out for myself. I know there has been alot of disbelief about Mazda coming out with a recall in the next month or so. I have had my engine replaced and so forth and still have had problems. I contacted the San Antonio, TX dealer and they were unaware of any recall and advised me to call Mazda (1-800-222-5500). I talked to a customer service rep. at Mazda and told him I owned a 2004 RX-8 and that I have had major engine problems on my car. I explained to him that I heard some rumors on the internet that Mazda was going to be sending out a recall for my car. He did agree and explained to me that I should receive details in the mail in about a month or so. He could not explain the details because it hasn't been approved by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. I asked him if the dealers knew about this recall. He said most likely NOT but if they do, they are NOT allowed to perform it until Mazda gets it approved. I asked him if there is anyway the dealer's could have solved this issue (whatever it is) while it was recently in the shop. He said, even if they did, the dealer would still be obligated to perform a check on the car. If you want to call for yourself, the number is 1-800-222-5500.

Give one to zoom44, too.

I can't believe how people are reacting to something we don't have all the information on yet! This is crazy!

I don't imagine that Mazda would take this step and recall EVERY RX-8 from 04, 05, and some of 06, if this was expected to be such a huge/widespread problem. They can't possibly be expecting to find a significant percentage of engines needing replacement or that would cause them to spend a big ton of money. I feel pretty confident that whatever the new flash is that they feel it is a fix for all these issues, that they have finally figured out what the problem was and were able to come up with a remedy.

On the other hand, maybe I should go buy a helmet.

There is obviously at least 1 synthetic on the market that is causing issues. I don't see this as a problem with the fact that it is a synthetic but rather with the manufacturer and their choice of formulation. Why would I want to use any oil from this company? This company's conventional oil probably doesn't have everything in it that they put in their synthetic which just happens to be what is really causing all of the issues. This has led to a false notion that synthetics are bad rather than pointing at the real issue. Why hasn't Mazda said which company or companies make an oil they don't like? It's simple. They don't need a lawsuit against them from whoever they name claiming they make a bad product.

Remember when I posted at Sevenstock last year how I asked Mr. Rotary Engine himself, Yamamoto-san which synthtic oils he doesn't like? Remember also how it was a broekn english conversation so multiple names didn't come out. A few did though. Idemitsu (a group IV synthetic) is a good synthetic oil to use in a rotary. Of course Yamamoto-san himself helped formulate it so that's a good reason for an endorsement. The fact that he endorses ANY Group IV synthetics at all proves in itself that it's not a "synthetic" issue but rather something else. Remember it's the base stock that determines the group and it's the base stock that makes it conventional or synthetic.

Back to the topic at hand. He also said Royal Purple is fine. Valvoline is also fine. It is a hydrocracked Group III so whether or not it is a synthetic is a subject of much debate. Some say yes and others no. The only other name I got out of him when it came to synthetics was Mobil 1. He said not to use it in a rotary. He didn't say why other than to say it had to do with the oil metering system. I didn't get any more details than that. He did admit that while Mazda has tested and continues to test different manufacturers products, from apex seals to oils, they hadn't tested nearly all of the oils out there and need to play it safe by just not recommending any of them. That's a legal department talking.

What does this mean about Mobil 1 synthetic? Is Mobil 1 a bad oil? Nope. Millions of cars use it and have with no issues. It is actually the most widely used synthetic in the world which may actually explain things. If there is something that Mobil 1 used in their synthetic oil formulation (as we all know it's not the base stock that causes any issues) that happens to leave deposits in a rotary in greater quantity than most other oils do, wouldn't it just be safe to tell people not to use any synthetics? Remember Mobil 1 is the most widely used synthetic in the world. That alone means that most people that will us synthetic will probably think about using Mobil 1. It's a formulation issue not a synthetic issue.

Does this mean that MAzda has specifically stated that Mobil 1 synthtic is dangerous? Nope. They never will say that. This is just a result of a conversation I had with the bigdog rotary guy at Mazda and none of this can be considered an official stance. When you look at the puzzle pieces, you can pretty much figure out what is going on.

Since I have torn down several engines and rebuilt them, I have a few stories of what the insides of engines look like. I've got a great one that deals with carbon and conventional oil!

I've alluded to it before, but this SO reminds me of back in '01 when engines on '99 and '00 Miatas were failing in large numbers courtesy a mis-machined engine bearing. Hundreds of engines were being replaced—mine included—and to read miata.net back then you'd think it was the end of the world. "A black eye for Mazda," "I'll never buy a Mazda again," "if the engineering's so good, how could this have happened!! etc., etc. Today, the Miata (MX-5) is universally admired as a well-designed, reliable sports car.

Like all car companies, Mazda makes mistakes now and then. Happily, they're pretty good about owning up to them—and correcting them.

This too shall pass.

Beer?

Um Zoom erm pay no mind to my gerbil motor or MazdaSpeed Chinchilla.. -:whistles innocently:-... yeah.. wasnt me... nope..

I'm just waiting for offical word from Mazda on this. I asked my service dealer rep and he bashed the site a bit and I'll admit it got me really annoyed (and zoom to!). I've calmed down (a little) and I'm now in a wait and see mood. Though today upon really looking at my Carfax report for my 8 I'm unsure of my baby since it was a Corporate Lease Vehicle and driven hard aparently.

But 'eh.. We'll just have to wait now for Mazda to show their full hand because right now it seems some of us are callin or folding without full details.
Hmm beer....

A new flash that does what? Increase the omp flow at lower and cruise rpms. Better lubrication at lower rpms and city driving where most people are driving. Unless you are racing.

I run premix every fill up and only seen one other member in this post use it too.

If the damage is already done then your engine will be replaced and the vacuum test will tell you! I think the hot climates magnify the problem more.

As far as carbon build up> PLEASE rev the car too beep at least once a day!
