If I'm in the mood to save gas I'll shift 3500-4000RPM.

What if you already have the "S" flash?

Wasn't the S supposed to up oil metering and fix A/C stumbles? If it actually does this, won't it hide some or all of the symptoms of a damaged engine?

Just seems like what they check for in the drive test is what the S flash was supposed to help with, so is it possible they would miss the problem?

the 'T' flash in this recall is mandatory for ALL affected RX8's

we're only 6 more flashes away from the elusive 'Z' flash!!! lol

I wasn't asking if I needed to move to the "T" flash. I was asking if having the "S" flash would hide the symptoms of a damaged engine during the drive test that they have to do to see if the engine is ok.

I find it interesting that the only check for a bad cat is via the PCM. They don't check it visually at all.

It is not strange really, visual checks show only broken ceramic brick(may be) and pluggage of the ceramic brick(maybe).
The test descibed is a functional check which checks the decontamination capability of the catalytic converter.Broken bricks and plugged bricks would not pass

I just faced a similar problem, car was idling erraticaly (Bouncing idle) when clutch was not engaged. Took it in, they had the car for over a week and a half. First thing they did was replace the Neutral Switch, that took care of the clutch idling, but they claimed it was still idling erraticaly when the A/C was turned on.

They had to bring in one of the Master mechanics who recommended they change the MAF...did that, nothing same issue... they then stated it was the throttlebody, changed that with a PCM update and that seemed to fix the problems since I haven't seen any idling issues since and it's been 3 weeks.

^ Bio.. how often would the irregular idling happen to you?? Was it constant or just once in awhile?? I dont think mine happens enough that the dealer could recreate...

Bump. Same question here. Should I bug my dealer about it now, or should I wait for them to contact me? I hate not being proactive about this...

Also, for anyone that has had their engine replaced: did you ever log your old engine serial number? Like the organ donor program; it'd be cool to say that your old motor has brought new life to my 8, wouldn't it?!? If mine is surrendered to Mazda, I'll let you know the #.

It's obvious. After Z you get a 350Z engine.

But I guess if you go minutes on end without getting over, say 8 mph, then that would do it. I guess you just gotta rev that motor once in a while. Give you something to do while you're stuck in gridlock. VROOOOOM!!!

HELLZ NO!!! I wanna do more than go in a straight line.

BtW someone mentioned Serial # logging.. um... where is our # stamped on the block or whateva Mazda decided to do in regards to that? Havent bothered to look I'm disapointed in myself
Althought our car is mass produced I think this idea has some merit with the end of the world senerio of most engines being replaced and all that.

At first it was rare and occasional, then it got a bit worse but when I restarted the car it was fine. Then it got to the point where it was constant and even a restart would only calm the idle for an hour or so.

I even tried to clear the ECU a few times, but that didn't work either.

Wow - that's weird. I was thinking of an "organ donor" meet when this is all over, on the way home tonight. It would be neat if we could track where these remans go, but I think it will be a closely guarded secret.

Wait.. I read that if a dealer participates in the m-code program, we'll be given a cx-7 as a loaner?? How would one ascertain if their dealer is in said program?
