Oregonian here- I got the letter last night and my RX-8 (an early build 06) is in the shop today. They gave me a CX-7 loaner. I had called them to set up an appointment yesterday to check out my squeaky clutch pedal, and when I got home the letter was in my mail box. When I went in this morning they said that they would take care of the recall, too.

I like the drivetrain of the CX-7 but the interior is kind of ugly. I like my Honda CR-V better. The CX-7 is zippy, though.

I doubt they will do anything but flash the PCM, my car only has 1700 miles on it and it runs great.

so i went in and they said the managers had a meeting about the recall. so now i gotta go back in next week to get my car worked on. did you guys leave the car over night and get a rental? or was it a one day deal. cause the service guy told me the would give me a rental and may take couple days. wtf?

What dealership did you use? I haven't made my appointment yet but was going to call this week. I hope they give me a CX-7. Last time I was there getting my oil changed and tires rotated they had gotten a few in over the weekend and were finishing up prepping them and needed to get a little gas in them for test drives so the guy taking one of them to the gas station (about 1.5 miles total trip) asked if I wanted to go with him since I was just kind of hanging around, apparently looking quite bored. He let me drive it there. It was really nice but I don't care for that stripe they put down the seat centers.

I just called my dealer to ask how long it would take and they basically wanted me to drop it off with them and leave it overnight. They said they expected it to take 2-4 hours. It kind of sounded like they were planning to do all the steps even though I haven't had any issues. I didn't schedule my appointment yet since I told them I need to check my calendar first. Mainly I just wanted to wash it first. My poor little car is pretty dirty-looking right now. I didn't have a chance to wash it before I left for vacation and while I was gone it "misted" at my house twice so the dust and pollen got wet and now my car appears to have light-colored measle spots. LOL

I was hoping I could drop it off on a Friday afternoon, get a loaner and then have it be ready Monday morning to pick up, since I have a pretty tight schedule otherwise. I was originally going to do it this Friday and do an afterhours drop-off since I have an appointment with the neurologist for my elbow/forearm/hand issue but they told me I can't do an afterhours drop-off for the recall since I needed to fill out or sign some paperwork or something first. I'll probably try and schedule it for next Friday.

I had my appointment Friday morning at 8. I was called Saturday around 11 to pick it back up. All I needed was the PCM reprogram.

Sorry to hear that. O'Hara folks are young and at times seem somewhat media-inexperienced, but have always been eager to please in the past. They have a top rated RX-8 tech.

Don't worry! The dealer is supposed to wash/detail the car and fill it up with gas as part of the recall. The letter to the dealers calls for "white glove treatment" (hopefully not too invasive). I actually put off washing my car just cause I knew these guys would take care of it ;-)

I prefer washing my own car, though. Besides, it's a little embarassing having a nice car and it's "spotted."

Ah good point. I've had no problem with the place they take my car to- they seem to do a pretty good job. After moving down here to NC and experiencing pollen season, I kinda gave up the fight to keep my car clean during the summer.

Got both my letters on Friday, took it in this morning (tues).

My buddy got his done at the east side Tucson dealer in 1 day (yesterday), his paperwork says .6 hours, cat check (they spelled it cattallitic OMG) and ECU reprogram.

My west side dealer said I might not have my car back until sometime next week!!!
I had to get a rental, waited 2.5 hours at Enterprise, and ended up with a full size Dodge Ram truck....well at least my mileage will be better for a little while

So there my car sits out there on the repair lot, with 13 other RX-8s in the burning sun with my new CarPC baking away for no reason, other then they are swamped with other Mazda/Ford/Hyundai repair work... I was told I am the first in though for the recall work, all the other RX-8's were already in the shop for one reason or another...

Sounds like I should have just taken it to the east side dealer... hmmm

I received both of my letters on 9/2/06. I made an appointment with Senator Mazda for today at 9 am. Took her in this morning, and got a rental car. About 2 hours later, Lola/Senator Mazda called to inform that they had to order parts (spark plugs) to complete the recall services. Went back to pick my baby up and she was all shiny and clean. They already reflashed the PCM, and performed the vacuum test. They also topped all fluids off and checked EVERYTHING. I am very pleased with the service at Senator Mazda.

Another note....I had previously been taking my 8 to Autowest Mazda in Roseville for all services. Every time I picked up my car it had not been washed, and even had greasy handprints once. Then it came time for the 30K service and the price tag was 749.00 PLUS an additional 500.00 to replace the spark plugs!!! I ended up doing the 30K service myself and all together it cost me about 150.00. However, if you don't have the time or desire to do it yourself, Senator Mazda only charges 349.00 for the 30K service.

I stopped by a local dealer today to pick up some crush washers for my oil changes and one of the guys behind the counter jokingly asked if I had my motor blow up yet? I thought that was a bit un-called for, but just goes to show that the rx-8's are becoming quite the joke at the dealers. Heck, I saw a brand new Shinka model on the showroom floor for $29k, I bet that car's a joke as well then.

I also asked about the recall and how long I have to have it done and they said it doesn't expire, so since I've only got 5k miles on the car, I don't plan on having the re-call work done until close to my warranty expiration unless I have some problems. The one thing I did ask was if they had any complaints about gas mileage and they said no they haven't. I find that a bit hard to believe as I'm getting maybe in the mid teens for mileage.

Got my car back today!!! It was reprogrammed and had the leading spark pugs changed. so i guess i don't need a new engine after all.
