Please pardon me if this has been addressed already - but - I really didn't want to sift through 108 pages!
I'm wondering if the amount of miles/age of the car has a bearing on the motor recall. Example - my 8 is an 04 and only has 4,100 miles on it (I know, I should drive it more but I'm REALLY paranoid about weather and other people). I'm assuming that it will pass the 'test'.....but.....what is the chance that if it had 20,000 miles on it, it will be more prone to failure. Has Mazda addressed or is there any information on this scenario???????

damn, wish I would have said something at the dealer, I just picked up my car
and the tank was BONE dry, and unfortunately, I didn't notice the low fuel light until I was half way home, because I couldn't get my CarPC to boot and I was freaking out!
It took 14.5 gallons to fill, making my gas mileage 15.3 mpg, something I have never experienced (usually 17-18.5) and according to the ODO they drove the car 7 miles. They drove my buddy's '05 0.6 miles for the same test.
It's like they siphoned gas out of my tank! I know it was low when I brought it in, but damn... It's like they went drag racing with it or sat there in the revving the engine at 9K. How else would they be able to trash my mileage figure in 7 miles?
this was Jim Click Mazda at Automall, nice service advisor, but no communication
about what was done... The receipt just shows they flashed the ECU and that no
abnormalities were noted on test drive..... nothing about spark plugs, cats, or vacuum testing... although when asked, the girl at the service counter said all that stuff was done!!! Hmmmm. 6 days without my car, happy to have it back without needing a new motor, and the new flash, but not too happy with Jim Click's white glove treatment. i will repost on the dealer recal experience thread.

Well I faxed in the dealer and owner letter to my service manager and got a polite call back saying it'd all be taken care of when I came back. He said that he verified the info with the warranty woman regarding rental/loaner car, gas and car wash. The customer shouldn't have to be the one informing them of MNAO procedures. I feel bad for those going in without all the proper information and printouts.
Just more evidence that some dealers are more clued in than others.

I will always own rotary powered sportscars and will continue to build V8 powered RX7's to provide folks like myself a perfect balance of "almost enough" power for a spectacular chassis.

Oohhh...Mazda has a programmable ECU..OHHHHHH!! Hasnt the rest of the world had this for the last decade or so? I wouldnt dare call something that an asian manufacturer has finally woken up to, a technological achievement. IMHO, were lucky that Mazda made the step into the 1990's to perform reprogramming the ECU even possible.

Sorry..own a 405Hp ZO6, and..I can -not- equal the MPG the 8 offers me.
I can reset my MPG-O-Meter at Hwy9&35, coast with the A/C off downhill without using the go-pedal for nearly -8- straight miles, managing between 30 and 70mph, and then ever so gingerly use as little fuel as possible from 236 to Boulder Creek (CA), get the kid at school, and then up Big Basin 3mi to my house..and guess what, 18mpg.
I average 16-18Mpg in my 8 with no driving habit shifts whatsoever, and I drive spirited as well.

I wanted them to confirm over the phone that it would likely be a two hour process. However they said, "As a matter of fact, if the catalytic converter needs to be replaced, it could take two or three days". How can a simple task such as that possibly take two or three days? I'm going into the recall appointment with extreme caution.

Besides that, they could be giving you their worst case scenario. In my case, they had a new one overnight. The parts department didn't stock them.

Just dropped off my car this morning. My service advisor was late, so I checked in with someone else, but recieved a call from mine as soon as he arrived, letting me know he expected it to be done tomorrow around lunch. I have a CX-7 loaner vehicle, and they will give me gas fill-up, and I waived the complimentary car wash (I don't want them messing up all my hard work =P ). I'll update tomorrow when I find out what happens. So far, very impressed.

I just got my Mazda papers extending the warranty to 100,00miles, unfortunately I have 108,000 miles on my 8.
Will I still qualify for the engine recall when and if I recieve it?
