^ And you should get some paperwork for your records anyway. Stickers suck.
Devildog - your dealer can book an appointment and do the work regardless of the letter. In fact, MNAO reps have confirmed this when other members called w/the same Q.

Hey guys. I have one of the low vin # 8's and had no issues to any of the symptoms until the past month.
My car started to idle terribly low reaching 500 rpms more and more frequently.
My car qualifies for recall due to Vin # but had not received the recall letter thus far. But I did get the extended warranty notice.
Braught it into today to have it looked at and like 5-10 min later the service manager gave me a slip for a rental car because they needed to further investigate the issue.
They heard a hissing noise coming from the engine which I didn't even notice. About the whole power loss problem. A few times I noticed a little lag once in the 5-6,000 rpm range and then the car came to life near 6,500-7,000rpms. But this did not happen on a regular basis. Once I noticed it the first I simply backed it down and hit it again and that lag wouldn't be as prominent.
Well hopefully I am not part of the new engine club. I will post an update once I find out what they find hopefully tomorrow.

BTW, the week after I had mine in, it wouldn't start, and had to take it in for the battery to be replaced. Mazda roadside assistance to the rescue. They SAID they replaced the battery when they replaced the starter and plugs, but apparently they didn't.

I got the scoop on my 8 today. The dealer did all the perfomance tests and the such. My 8 failed the road test and the cat failed the cat test.
They had to send the data from the tests to mazda to get the word on what to do with my car from them. Apparently it looks like a new engine.
Does anyone know the cause of this problem the 8 is having with the engines and power loss?
Does anyone know if the "new engine" even fixes the problem? Meaning will the new engine also exhibit the same problem over time.

It's being reported that not enough oil is being injected at low RPMs so the seals are drying out, thereby causing damage. The new flash is supposed to update the programming so that more oil gets injected.

Thanks for the info bunny. Here is a more detailed drescription on what my driving style is and where I live.
Today: Call back from the service manager after doing all road tests and tests on the CAT. All tests failed.... My car exhibited power loss which I never noticed because I very rarely drive wide open throttle which is required to feel it. My cat also failed tests for emissions and the such. They followed the flow chart mazda sent them to follow for the "if this problem exists go hear" thing and it led them to call mazda.
Which will probably result in a new engine after mazda sees the results my car posted being below spec. I won't get the official word until tomorrow.
I have owned my 8 for almost 2 years now and have 42,000 miles on it. I have always put 89 octane in the 8, changed the oil every 3,000 miles at the dealer and as far as I know it isn't synthetic... they use valvoline, I live in New England a non hot zone, I shift my 8 over 5,000 rpm all the time. Usually around 6-7,000 rpm. I have always let it warm up before driving as it states in the manual.
I have taken every precaution in the manual and maintence protocol in the manual with my 8. After taking all the care advice in the manual and following it my engine apparently **** the bed.
My only concern is... is replacing the engine the FIX for the problem. Or will the "new" engine have the corrections that caused the problem.
One thing I think that might be a factor is how long the 8's are driven at a low rpm range like highway driving.
I drive almost 100 miles day back and forth to work, and most of that is traveling at 70-75mph or at 4,000 rpm for most of that trip. Maybe this is a factor of the carbon buildup in the engine.

Well, it seems with this new fix that they replace the engine because it has been damaged from the oil issue. So, with the updated flash, in theory, you shouldn't get the same problem again.

(2.5-year-old MY2004 with 21k miles)
I got the battery/starter/plugs TSB done too. She starts up very quickly now and makes a cool turbine-like sound while doing it.
They kept the car overnight and gave me a 2007 Camry (268 hp/248 ft-lbs V6, 6AT, 3461 pounds). Nice car for a loaner, but it was another reminder that having more power and more torque doesn't make a car more fun. It was actually faster than my RX8 at low-mid RPMs, but not as fast up high. More to the point, it was boring and disconnected. Had that pleasant childhood-Christmas-morning feeling when I got the RX8 back yesterday afternoon.

Quick question for the folks that have completed the recall process: were you given a Proof of Correction Certificate? And did the service department place a sticker under your hood and/or on the A pillar indicating that the recall had been performed? I had my recall completed yesterday, and I received neither.

I don't think Bella would do too well with 89. She seems to be a picky eater. LOL She does great when I use Chevron. I have used Shell twice. Both times she didn't run as smoothly and my mileage decreased. I always use premium when I fill up.

No sticker, no proof of correction certificate, no wash, no gas, they had it all day 8am-5pm and then I found out the didn't test my car at all because the tech didn't read my service record of being in for a CEL and power loss last spring. I got them to do the test in about an hour on day 2.
That having been said, my car runs smoother and seems (but dyno) to have a good deal more torque from 3k-6k. My service rep is a nice guy and I'm happy.

sorry about a little confusion there, looked at the wrong thread. I own a 2006 European edition and am wondering why no one has said anything about this recall. Is it the case for all rx8 models or did they fix the problem at any time
