Same here. Got the warranty extension info. But I didn't get any letter telling me to call my dealership. Maybe I was confused, but I thought there were separate mailings - one for the warranty info, and one as an "official" recall letter. But I've already had my car in for the work.

Ya, for an '04 MT. "U" for an '04 AT.
Check out page 16 of the instruction PDF, the big chart entitled CALIBRATION INFORMATION. Look then at the two columns to the right, you'll easily see the different flashes for the different RX-8's.

Now I have a question. For those of us that got free routine maintenance for the life of our warranty, has that been extended for another year as well?

I don't have anything from Mazda on the free maintenance, but the warranty extension is not a full warranty extension, just an extension on the power train. Of course, the oil change is within the power train, so it could be argued that the freebe maintenance should be extended for all power train items. I figured I would just wait and see what happens when I get there. I am at 32K miles now, so I've got a little while.

Yeah, my warranty period will end based on time too, it won't be based on mileage. But the question goes for the mileage extension too. And yeah, it's just the powertrain, my thoughts were the same as well. It might easily get down to dealership level as well...

When I called Mazda in Sacramento the service guy told me I didn't need a letter. I had the letter but when I took my car in I didn't even take the letter. So you should just call your dealership and take your car in, and don't forget to ask for a rental car they pay for that too.

Mine got noiser after the recall service. It doesn't seem to be the engine and it's hard to describe it, but definitely noiser. It almost sounds like tire noise, but I know it is not the tire noise. It sounds like noise you get when the car get old... kinda growling sound muffled by air flow or something like that. Anyone notice anything different after the service?

I do not seem to be having any of the classic engine problems but I sure wanted the flash.

I will try to reason with them first - I will not go back to the dealer that turned me down but will try the remaining area dealer in Henderson (same ownership). Maybe if I let them change the oil, offer to cover any time spent over the flat rate charge for the different checks and explain what each of the "mods" is actually doing I can get the work done - sure would hate to take off all I've done and put it back to stock for this flash. I sure do miss the Mazda dealer that closed as we had a working relationship.

No letter, but brought mine in anyway. Receipt says the following:
- Cat Conv Inspection = No Problem Found
- Inspection of Battery and Charging System = OK (already had newer plugs, starter and battery a couple months ago)
- PCM Prog Only 4206F
No indication of exact flash revision.
**EDIT - Also mentioned that sometimes it's hard getting into 5th gear when shifting at very high RPMs. They test drove it and said it was OK at 6500RPM. I told them that anyone who drives a rotary does not consider 6500 very high RPMs. At least it's in the computer if my syncro goes completely.
**EDIT 10/18 - I forgot, no gas fill up from them.

Bumper to bumper (50,000 mile) warrenty will be going out in 30 miles; I went to turn my car in for the recall (changed sparkplugs and new reflash)after picking it up I found that my car had even a harder time starting (5 seconds) and it churped right before starting. I turned it back in to the service manager and he stated that his mechanic had said that he noticed that it was hard to start after he did the reflash. I was wondering if it was hard to start why would he give it back like nothig even happened. Got a call after a day and was told that they checked the starter and battery but it was still acting up. They were still trying to give it to me like nothing happened and the mechanic was trying to say that it was because of my AEM CAI. I then talked to the overall service manager and I had to replicate the problem on the spot and told him that it had no bearing on the car starting like that, then he said that they will look into it so they kept the car. Since my warrenty is going out I had them to look at my bumper again. Previously I had seen that my bumper wasn't flush against the body like the 05 and 06 model, asked them to fix it . They "said" that they ordered a new bumper and it didn't fit. Then they had a custom guy try to heat the body to mold it and needless to say that I wasn't impressed. Instead of going through the hasseld at the time I temporarily let it go. You can easily see the side bumper brackets. I asked them to look at the new bumper brackets to compare and their body shop noticed that the bumper brackets were broken and said that they would charge me $120 dollars to fix it and would not fix it under warrenty because Mazda Corp. doesn't warrent broke bumper brackets unless they are defective so he would have to pay for it. I told him they were and he implied that since the CAI was on the car that it could have been broken when that was installed. I let him know that was always like that before the CAI was installed and it was in their records, he said that he would call Mazda tomorrow and see what he could do. I told him if he needed me to I will call them personally and he quickly was like naw we can handle it because it would be a lot of back and forth between them and Mazda and can complicate things. This is the biggest crock of BS I've seen in a while. Why does dealership put people through crap and expects people to have faith in thier products. If anyone have any advice please let me know.

Just got my car back from the dealership today.
Had power loss and idle problems.
Ignition Coils were replaced.. New Cat...New plugs... and Reflash.
Car was filled with gas(93 octane) and washed.
Only drove it for about 20min and didn't have much time to really "test" it myself
.
If I have any issues I will report back.

BTW-I had 3800 miles on my 2006 Base 6MT before I got around to having the recall done... and now the car simply ROCKS! My "seat of the pants" feel says there's 8-10 more horsepower (at least!) showing up for work between 4000 and 7500 RPM. My car pulls like a banshee through 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, and I wasn't complaining before.
I'll have to wait and see if the ECM tunes out all of the fun later...

my guess it is to build oil pressure in the mop or to clear the chambers before the injectors fire...
it is normal..

But mine was craking so long that I heard a chirpin sound. I would think that would be excess stress on the starter and eventually develope into another issue and we may not be graced with a recall on it.

and your warranty has been extended to 60 k miles... you might take the time to learn about the car...

Fix action: replaced starter (new version), replaced new battery with heavy duty battery especially made for the Rx-8 for more juice and replaced bumper brackets (new ones are black, instead of white and new version). too early to say completely satisfied but happy for now.

Just got mine back from the dealer today. No letter, I just called in and old them i needed an oil change, rotate and the recall. no engine or cat needed. just replaced the lead plugs and reflashed it. it doesnt say on the invoice which reflash they used , nor did they update the sticker on the inside of the hood.
The car seems to run alot smoother at idle havent really noticed any increase in throttle response as some have said. I didnt get the fill up or wash, but was so happy i didnt have to put her under the knife that I didnt care.
I would still like to know i'm running on the newest flash though.
