OnYA Gomez!, the first t break news of the new RX-8, and yes it is just more than colors and it is not the next gen 8, there is no guarantee there ever will be.
The new Mazda 6 is the Next Generation of "Zoom" Design.
From Autoweek..
"RX-8 for '09
While the Furai concept will likely steal all the spotlight on the Mazda stand in Detroit, the 2009 RX-8 will also be revealed.
Mazda is downplaying changes to the new sports car, saying only that it will sport "a freshened design, improved handling, acceleration, quality and features," which could mean anything."

All attending media are invited to the company’s formal unveiling on the Mazda show stand, scheduled at 13:45 p.m. on Monday, January 14, 2008.
All this excitement for the new moonlight grey paint scheme......

Maybe I'm missing something, but I thought it was pretty well known that a facelifted RX-8 is coming in the next 2-3 years and then the next gen RX-8 would come a year or two after that. The next gen is supposedly going to have the 1.6L rotary with direct injection. Is any of this really news? Weren't we already expecting a prototype of the facelift during this show season?

I want them to fire up the 3-rotor at NAIAS, INDOOR, and rev to 10k. Then I am going there FOR SURE. Everyones gonna get their checkbooks out if they do that.. haha...
This is quite exciting, since when did mazda display ANY 3-rotor powered concept/car at an Autoshow? Eunos Cosmo in Tokyo?
On top of that, I am guessing the BK Lola, Mazda MX5-cup cars, and perhaps Speedsource RX-8s *could* be at the show. Since they said they're gonna bring a few race cars. Mazdas bringing out all their race stuff, a raceing exhibition full of zoom zoom.
They'll also have all the engine cutaways at Tokyo + the Taiki.

I don't know. Based on that article, it seems Mazda may have some tricks up their sleeve for the Detroit Auto Show.... I hope so. Mazda is claiming the 09 with have better acceleration, handling and new look.

RE: breaking the embargo... looks like it's probably 2 weeks for ride impressions:
"Stay tuned--in two weeks we'll give you an impression of what it felt like to ride in the Furai full-tilt around Mazda Raceway at Laguna Seca. No, they wouldn't let us drive it."
