908 S2000's were sold in the same period of time...that's kind of sad. regardless of the exclusivity, i'm just worried that sales are low enough to dissuade Mazda from dumping money into developing the RX-7 successor...

heh.
Look at the year to date info.
(based on YTD)
8000 of the new mx-5 this year.
last year we had 7000 rx-8's sold.
swap the years around, last year we had 3000 mx-5's sold, and this year we had 4300 rx-8's.
The numbers don't look that horrible to me. The RX-8 will never be a mazda3 or mazda6 in terms of number of units sold. It was never supposed to be. The miata has been around for a long time, and it's numbers are similar to the 8's.
Just like the miata, I think many are expecting a face lift on the RX-8 soon. 2008? So sales will be dipping.

When are these worthless threads going to stop being posted? I've never seen any other forum for any other car be so obsessed with trying to convince the rest of the community that their car sucks.

The only thing more routine than threads about sales numbers are the obligatory posts from some insisting that they don't mean anything.
It should be added to the forum rules "no speculating about anything whatsoever that involves the future of anything rotary or Mazda related". So sayeth the forum elite!

I think Mazda would sell boatloads of 8's if the US government would make every road a twisty. So, if you want to blame someone for the poor sales figures. Blame the Fed!!!

I doubt marketing has anything to do with it. I see ads in magazine print all the time. The Mazda 3 sells like a rockstar. It hit a bullseye. As much as I love my 8, I accept it is a bit different than what the mainstream American public wants. No matter. Mazda as a company is making money and that is what matters.

Numbers for June are out: http://www.prnewswire.com/cgi-bin/st...4391099&EDATE=
Compared to June '05, Mazda sales up 8% -- RX-8 sales down 35%.
But remember everyone -- it doesn't mean anything.

Then we'll see if the "rotary is here to stay" as Mazda puts it ... as least as far as US domestic market is concerned.
I have a feeling if sales aren't healthy, the rotary will have a hard time getting approval for a new lease on life.
Why did the FD get pulled from our shores in the mid 90's anyway? If it was for emissions reason, surely that coulda been solved, nevermind what kind of sales #'s it would have brought in.

stop flooding ur engines
in 1995 mazda sold like 500 FD's. the cost to make it emission legal post 1996 is so high it wasnt worth selling another 500. we all kno it did just fine for another 6 years in japan. leading up to my ultimate dream car. the 2002 spirit R type A, in white of course

From the general theme of this thread, are we really to believe that the RX-8 isn't in danger if sales diminish?? Oh boy... I guess the Renesis' biggest hurdle will be the next EPA regulations.
