Mazda certainly did a great job in stuffing up their biggest market only 611 units sold in November

From what i have been told here in Australia they are lucky to sell 100 per month

Try about 30 a month....they still have 2005 models available!..too expensive.

Production of the 8's have increased to 1700 for October...thats up from about a 1400 monthy average in 2006.

Yeah...and the new MX-5 sales in the US are also down 38.9% and probably will continue to slide...

Considering there has been virtually NO change in the RX-8 (except Auto) since its launch ALL those years ago..its doing OK.

No changes for next year...not until 2008.

Philosophically, Mazda has NEVER been about horsepower. Like Lotus, they're more about feel, balance and handling—a subtle thing that's not really "measureable," and yeah, that may not sell cars to 20-year olds. "Oneness between car and driver?" (is that what Mazda calls it?) is the core philosophy of the company. Those aren't the words a company that's into horsepower would use to describe what they stand for. And that's what I love about Mazda (the RX-8 is my fourth). The Miata's the same way: great feel that doesn't involve massive hp. I doubt the RX-8 will ever compete well, in sales, with sports cars known for their horses. Not only is that not what Mazda's about, it also doesn't seem to be the nature of the rotary unless you complicate it up with expensive, less reliable FI. People who love hp should shop elsewhere—and probably do.

I feel lucky. Lucky that there's a company that puts handling over horses. (That can't be an easy corporate philosophy to follow in a world gone mad for horsepower.) I'm the guy Mazda's looking for. If the 8 had more horses and even a little less of that great Mazda "feel," I wouldn't have bought the car.

Back in 2003, I test drove many cars, S2000, WRX, 350z. Evolution, Boxster and a few others (didn't impress me enough to remember 'em). None of these cars 'blew away' the others, they were pretty damn close. I chose the 8 because I liked it a little more than the others. Now it is 2006, the 2007 350z, WRX STi, Evolution, etc have had major hp increases, and or redesigns. The RX8 is the same as it was in late '03. If you are in the market and test drive these vehicles, the 8 will feel weak compared to the 350z, G35, Evolution or WRX STi.

Mazda needs a hp increase,, period. Yeah, I like the 8 as it is, but add another 50hp and it would become a much better performer. I think a turbo or supercharger, if done correctly would be a cost effective and reliable way to boost the 8's standing. As it stands now the 8 is underpowered when compared to the competition.

Cheers,

Alex

All their car sales slipped except for the Mazda 5. It seems the numbers were made up by the CX-7.

Uhh, the MX-5 sales are up 80% for the year. The RX-8 is down 35%. The MX-5 is having a bad month -- the RX-8 is having a bad year.

Can't give you November Sales for Europe, not out yet.
Also cant give you individual model numbers (RX-8)...

Rough Idea...
Mazda Japan average last 6 months 1400 RX-8's made...
about 300 for domestic, less US Sales, rest of world is balance...at a guess
Europe about 200 RX-8's a month...

Double-Digit Sales Increases in October
at Mazda Motor Europe

.October sales up 16 percent with a volume of 23,800 units

·Mazda brand achieves double-digit growth in 13 European countries

·Spain, Portugal, the UK and Russia set sales records

Leverkusen, 13th November 2006. Sales continued at a hot pace last month at Mazda Motor Europe, which sold 23,800 units. This is 16 percent more than October 2005 and the company’s best October result in 15 years.
Calendar year-to-date sales continue to hold steady in double-digit range. January - October sales were up 13.2 percent based on a volume of 260,300 units, which is more than 30,000 units above the same ten-month period last year.
All countries contributed to October’s result, with 13 individual markets reporting double-digit increases. Germany led the way with a volume (KBA registrations) of 6,996 units, which is up 12.7 percent over October 2005. In Spain, two records were set: an all-time record for monthly market share, estimated at 1.1 percent, and an October record for volume, at 1,560 units, up by 36 percent versus last October. Portugal also set an all-time record for monthly market share, predicted at 1.9 percent, and an October record for volume, at almost 400 units, up 19 percent.
Two October records were set in the UK (incl. Cyprus and Malta) – for volume at 3,200 units and for predicted market share, at 1.7 percent – while increasing sales by 4.3 percent. And Russia set an October record for volume, selling over 2,800 units, which is up 21 percent year-on-year and that market’s 46th consecutive month of double-digit growth or better.
Other markets achieving outstanding results last month were Austria (incl. Central and South East European countries) with a volume of 1,950 units, up 33 percent. In France retails were up 33 percent versus October 2005 based on a volume of 1,250 units. Mazda’s Scandinavia organization had an excellent October as well, selling 1,330 units in the region, up 19 percent year-on-year, with all three member countries having outstanding months. In Denmark and Norway sales rose by 19 percent and in Sweden sales were up by 18 percent year-on-year.
Other countries having excellent months included Ireland, which increased sale by 41 percent, Belgium (incl. Luxembourg), up 27 percent, the Netherlands, up 20 percent and Switzerland up 11 percent versus October 2005.

The thread may be about November, but you were making statements about the success of the MX-5 and RX-8. That's ridiculous to look at the sales for one month and claim anything.

NO, I was making a comment on November sales only....not yearly as you have done.

My claim was "probably", but slower sales for the month of November to the same month of November 2005 (vehicles launch year) could be and possibly be supply related, recently adding the PRHT to the range should lift those numbers as I know there are supply issues with the Roadster Coupe-PRHT worldwide.

Trends of most Mazda sports cars (RX-7 SA ,FC,FD),(MX-5 NA,NB) over the years have a very similar pattern in sales percentage falls to the FE RX-8.
Particularly when there have been no significant model upgrades from year to year.

150,000 RX-8s? worldwide? Wow... that's more than I thought. I know there's an ongoing debate about if the rx-8 is a success or failure (this will probably never end), but I think 150,000 is a number to be proud of Mazda and the rotary engine.
