Hydrogen sucks.

1. Less power
2. Huge storage space needed to store hydrogen tank.
3. Low range, like 60 miles.
4. Big scam to supply the hydrogen. How do you get it? Who will provide it for you?
5. How do you make hydrogen? Oh, by burning fossil fuels like what big oil companies want thus pull you into another scam of theirs.

Mazda needs to go Rotary & Electric. That would work as a near future product you can bring to the market. Toyota is already kicking people's *** with their hybrids and their butt kicking will only get worse in the future.

Time to wake up and smell the coffee. Go electric, if you are planning a hybrid to be released in this century.

yea, it's too bad - it seems like for a second, Mazda has a trick up their sleeve knowing the Wankel is much better suited for H2 than pistons, but of course, all the other inherent Hydrogen issues are still there. This would all be less of an issue to me though, if the power figures jumped 44% instead of dropped!!!

The only thing is that large power generators are far more efficient that small engines. So even if you are still burning fossil fuels you get far more out of the same amount.

Also, I though that most fossil fuel power plants use coal not oil.

Third they could use filter to on the smoke to make it a lot cleaner... but supposedly they generally don't. Even when they are required to.

BUT Hydrogen doesn't seem like it has what it takes to replace gas.

What would be the ticket is if we could get a solar powered H2 production facility with decent output. That would be about as much of a free lunch
as you could get.

It an interesting concept and just goes to show that the 8 won't be going away anytime soon. Unfortunately hydrogen still has a long way to go before its a viable option, but props none the less to Mazda.

The nice thing about the hydrogen RX8 is that it is the only car being produced that uses hydrogen OR gasoline, something that will be a real bonus when it comes time to go somewhere without a hydrogen supply. (I know, that's everywhere right now, but it won't be for long.)

The real solution is solar, wind, or other clean renewable energy sources being used to create electricity to drive the production of hydrogen which can then used to power vehicles and equipment. As someone else pointed out above (whether intentionally or not) it makes no sense to start using hydrogen technology if it is being produced by power generated by fossil fuels.
