I read the sales numbers for the RX-8 and went on line to look up current sales prices on edmunds.com. To my amazement, edmunds.com shows a national purchase price of $24,448 for a manual transmission with no options (not including destination charge) which is $396 below invoice. This differs by almost $1,000 from the price on the Edmunds site just last week. Do any of you all have any experiences supporting or contradicting the edmunds.com pricing? Is Edmunds reasonably accurate in its pricing numbers? Could this be the forward data resulting from the lagging sales numbers? Is this the result of year-end overstock? Is there a possibility of Mazda incentives to boost sales ahead of dropping prices (if these are dropping, as edmunds.com seems to indicate)? I look forward to your ideas - information about year-end prices. MARK

I got my base with few minor options (spoiler, tint, polished rotary emblems, cargo net) for $22000 after $1500 in rebates (MSRP was just under 28k). This month the deals should be even better. I basically told them I wanted the car for 23.5 and I keep the rebates.

Also, as the all new '06 MX-5 just started hitting showrooms in September, one would certainly expect the sales to be better than last year's figure, but this isn't what Mazda is reporting.
The numbers just don't add up, Mazda USA f*cked up their accounting. Unbelievable.

I got my 04 for 8K off MSRP.
Maybe after people have seen em on the road a bit, they started picking up sales.
I know I get comments all the time, and its stock.

I have seen a large number of them pop up here in Minnesota in the last month. Even my parents have said the same thing.
They talked to one of their neighbors who got one. Apparently Mazda (locally?) has a really good deal on lease rates right now.. short lease (2-3 years), about $250-$300 a month.. (or so they were told).
That could account for a large increase in sales right there.

It probably has something to do with the fact that you can now get one out the door with tax and everything for under $30k, including the faster 6mt even with the GT option. I paid about $34k for mine over 2 years ago when it first came out.

EDIT: Looks like Mazda has the Miata and RX-8 numbers crossed. The RX-8 YTD 05 numbers were a lot HIGHER before this latest round - and the September "RX-8" sale bump is really the new Miata sales bump. So the RX-8 should be:

With the numbers in the table I posted belonging to the Miata. So they 8 has outsold the S2000 by about 2 to 1 (which sounds more like it).

So forget the September results, MNAO screwed up their report for that month. It's unclear if 1,148 or 949 RX-8s were sold; YTD is certainly wrong and should be at 11K+ based on the August results.
