Mazda US Sales October 05

RX-8.....................1212....Down........34%..... ..to last October 2004...(1823)

MX-5/Miata...........1236....UP............104%........ .................................(605)

Mazda 3................8241....UP............42%........ ..................................(5795)

Mazda 6................5092....Down.......31%........... ...............................(7376)

Mazda 5................92

Note that the New Miata/MX-5 Sales are similar numbers to the RX-8.

The Mazda 5 is doomed like the Premacy was in Australia, MA wont import the new Mazda 5 here. As I said once before they are a nothing car and very hard to find a market for it, many would rather spend the dollars on a SUV.

I also think unless the new CX-7 is "special" in performance, design, ability and different to other mini SUVs the same fait could follow it. I personally cant see where the CX-7 is different enough to what is already a crowded market.

Mazda 3 strong sales like the rest of the world.

The 3 was Mazda's best decision in a long time. Probably has Honda a little confused

Geez, the Mazda 5 sales are horrible. They'd be better off scrapping it and using the R&D on the MS RX-8 and a RX-7 or RX-3. I'm sure they'd sell a heck of a lot more than 92. Who says Mazda can't go on just making sports cars!?

The RX-8 has been holding steady at around 1000-1500 units all year. While not as good as its debut year, that's not too bad for a sports car. Especially considering that the all new MX-5 was just released and is selling in similar numbers.

I was one who did....

The 8 and MX-5 are about 10-15% of their new car sales, adding another sports car is NOT viable....

BTW for those who are looking for an RX-7...forget it, well at least that name, Mazda have never in the 30 odd years I have worked, owned and followed them re-used a rotary model name for export markets that was previously discontinued.

But you never know, history is against seeing it.

The resuse of a discontinued name did occur here with the 121/RX-5 models, produced in the mid 70s.
Later the 121 name was used for the small 4 door 121, the 121 bubble, now the Mazda 2.

Keep in mind US M-5 sales started and were halted almost simultaneously due to exhaust heat recall with no fix available. Even sold units were brought back in.

That is likely the answer for no sales in Oct. not lack of interest.

Considering RX-8 buyers are pretty savvy and that the only inventory around is leftover '05s and '04s, my guess sales are limp because most are waiting to see if the '06 has anything worthwhile to offer.

What amazes me (if true) is that there are new 04s still floating around. Or so I gather from this website. Haven't seen any myself.

Well that explains it, didn't know about the recall. Under normal conditions, only selling 92 for a new model would have been really really bad for Mazda.

Regarding the left over '04s, it must only be certain parts of the country. In Hawaii, the last new '04 was gone by the end of Jan. '05.

Actually, I was quoting Mazda's Joe Bakaj, who said "we can't keep launching sports cars" when pressed about plans for a future RX-7.

Mazda 5 update - just tried to test drive one yesterday - they were (supposedly) still in 'no drive' 'no sell' position as the kits for the recal upgrade program are (maybe) just to arrive in the next few days. So I got to sit in one, turn it on, that's all .

Then the sales guy called today and said he didn't realize... but the 5-spds are not part of the recall and can be test driven and sold .... But he was too late, I just bought a nice used PT Cruiser turbo - very nicely boosted 4-banger!
