Mazdaspeed accessories test

http://www.wheels.ca/article/26915

Intersecting article about basic Mazdaspeed mods and their effect, with comparisons of stock cars vs. modded cars, written by a well known auto scribe (in Canada anyways). Looks like Mazda is trying to get more Mazdaspeed accessory sales, no surprise considering what they charge.

They set up traps at 2 sections of the track to assess speed differences, if any.

First off, a MS3 with CAI, springs, and exhaust. Times improved from a 90(kms/hr) stock trap to 92 for the mod'd car in the slower section, to 150 to 155 in the faster section.

Next up was a MS6 had only the CAI, springs, and wheels. Times improved from a 92 to 95, and 140 to 150.

Next was a Miata with CAI, springs, and exhaust, but times stayed about the same with 90 and 140 traps...surprising.

The RX8 had a "free" sales incentive package that consisted of CAI, exhaust, and wheels. Times went from 97 to 101, and 147 to 152.

In all, seems like small improvements for the money spent.

You mean replacing the wheels didn't make it much faster?

Mazdaspeed probably wouldn't be in existence if their parts weren't somewhat better than stock.

mazdaspeed parts= tons of cash that could of been used for something else. I have the ms front bumper, the material is really strong, its been hit twice and a few scrapes underneath too, the repairs are simple and ends up looking brand new in the end. I want the rear, but its so expensive. Does anybody know where i can get a authentic ms rear at? I hear lazi can get it for good prices

I wonder what kind of difference springs and shocks would have made

Dude that site has carbon fiber almost EVERYTHING!!! I wonder what the weight savings would be? Yes, it would cost $7000+ to do all that, but I think a lot of people here have already put that much (if not more) into a turbo kit. An fully tuned NA 8 will probably come out to 220+whp (waiting on staticlag's dyno as he has just about as close to a fully tuned NA 8 as can be). Replace all seats with lighter seats (preferrably something that looks similar to the stock seats), add light weight wheels, paint the car brilliant black to cover the cf, put some beany babies in the back window, add a "my child is an honor role student at such and such" bumper sticker to the back, and a nitrous kit. THAT should be one of the best sleepers of all times.
