A MazdaSpeed after all?

So i was looking around today on the internet and came across this. I don't know whether it has any merit or not it was posted on another site back in September.

Mazda Presents Limited-Production Mazda RX-8 "Mazdaspee Reply with quote
Mazda Motor Corporation announces the release of a limited edition RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version, which is based on the RX-8 and fitted with Mazdaspeed* brand tune-up parts for enhanced sports driving performance. The RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version goes on sale from the middle of February at Mazda Anfini and Mazda dealerships throughout Japan.

The new RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version is based on the RX-8 Type S. Mazda has tuned up the engine using it`s exclusively designed PCM (Powertrain Control Module) to match the modified intake and exhaust systems of the Mazdaspeed Version, as well as going through balance adjustments around the eccentric shaft in response to the lightweight flywheel. Mazda has also tuned up the suspension and fitted aero parts to further enhance sports driving performance. Those modifications, carried out under Mazda`s strict quality control system, provide the RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version with well-balanced performance.

In addition, the RENESIS rotary engine has been further improved to deliver greater aerodynamic performance and even better sports car driving performance. Sharp, stable maneuverability is further enhanced while maintaining ride comfort, and the vehicle`s exterior design supervised by the RX-8 chief designer expresses high performance.

The sales volume of the RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version will be limited to 300 units.

Main Features of the RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version

1. Specially tuned engine
- Exclusively designed PCM (Powertrain Control Module) to match the modified intake and exhaust systems.
- Customized fresh air ducts for efficient engine air intake.
- Customized sports muffler that produces a rich engine sound and reduces exhaust pressure (with catalyst).
- Special spark plugs to stabilize combustion.

2. Use of Mazdaspeed brand parts
Engine related parts
- Double oil cooler set with improved cooling performance to handle hard driving.
- Lightweight flywheel and balance adjustments around the eccentric shaft for sharp engine response.
- Earthing kit to stabilize engine performance.
Chassis related parts
- Sports spring set to enhance driving stability (lowers vehicle by 20 mm).
- Mono-tube type shock absorbers that deliver both excellent high speed cornering performance and a comfortable ride.
- Fade resistant brake pad to enhance initial braking force and vehicle control.
Body reinforcement parts
- Front/rear strut bar and performance bar set to increase body rigidity.
- Large-diameter front/rear stabilizer bars to control rolling during cornering.
Exterior parts
- Exterior design by the RX-8 chief designer beautifully expresses driving performance with the front nose, rear under skirt, side skirt set, rear wing and Mazdaspeed ornaments, while maintaining the car`s original balance.

3. Body colors
The Mazda RX-8 Mazdaspeed Version is available in two colors: exclusive Strato Blue Mica with a high quality and striking appearance and Sunlight Silver Metallic, which is popular for its direct expression of sports driving.

uncannily similar to this article, http://rotarynews.com/node/view/428, but this one's dated 2004!

It also seems from the article that its going to be a Japan ONLY type thing which i guess will have to wait and see what Mazdaspeed we get in America for 2008. There is still hope for a Speed it seems after all. Whether we'll get one or not remains to be determined

Agreed. As for the validity of the article I am not sure. Just something i came across and thought I would share. Kreuzer, I thought the same thing when I looked at the post. Guess will have to wait and see. I would be nice to see the RX-8 back in the spot light at Mazda dealerships other than the Service Department.

This sentence has me confused, "In addition, the RENESIS rotary engine has been further improved to deliver greater aerodynamic performance and even better sports car driving performance."

Aerodynamic performance from an engine? Maybe it's just the way the sentence reads to me.

I agree. It's really ashame. It's such a great car and is a blast to drive when people give it a chance. My friends got a GT and he always gave me **** that how much faster his was than mine and I was like so. He believed till i burned him on an on ramp on after noon at about 60 merging on 81. It made a believer out of him. I just thing it would be great to have a renewed sense of luster in the showrooms. If Mazda wants to stay in the sports car game much longer it going to have to answer to the new muscle will see in 08 and 09. Time will tell all

Man, I knew that was too good to be true. Got my hopes up for nothing...

By the way, you forgot to mention that the MS8 can go travel through time and go faster than the speed of light

This is good news and bad news..... good news that we may get a speed 8 after all, bad news is i still owe another 3 years on my current RX-8.

And not to mention i still love my beloved 8, the speed 8 would would really have to be something special inorder for me to part with mine.

^ That article is like three years old there buddy Apparantly, back in 2004, there were a couple dealerships across the country that had them "so-called" Mazdaspeed 8's. They were basically GT models with every possible Mazdaspeed accessory attached to them. Unfortunately, it was only producing like an extra +12 horsepower.... and the price tag was ridiculously high as well. People were getting upset finding out that they weren't the official Mazdaspeed 8's so the dealerships stopped doing that.

Hey guys.
Sorry for the confusion. I had no idea it was 3 years old. Guess the guy just rewrote the article. I guess we can still keep our hopes up tho?

What WOULD be interesting is if they offered a "Mazdaspeed RX-8" with the new 16X.

THEN it can hold the "Mazdaspeed" label...AND represent...

you can tell who the noobs are - anyone who fell for this.

There was a REAL mazdaspeed in japan, limited edition. It's basically the standard Rx-8 with the MS parts on it. You can build your own using the MS parts too.

But my feeling on it is that you end up with a mazda without the speed.

old, old news.
