I seriously considered the Cayman as my recreational vehicle due to it's mid-engine configuration. It's supposed to be among the best handling cars in the world. But, price is a bit too steep for me for now, and some of the options, like in so many German cars, are *way* overpriced. Besides, I think the RX-8 is sexier!

 

yeah a Cayman S is meant to be a nice handling sports car. But its £54,000. I havent driven one though, so cant comment. Thats well over double the new R3 price.

I drove a 911 Carrera 4s, and it was total fail. (and not cheap either).

 

how can you say the carrera 4s is a total fail?

I mean its expensive, but its better than an 8 in A LOT of things

Yeah but comparing two cars in different classes isn't much better.

 

I can say its total fail because:

1. It was incredibly uncomfortable
2. It had a HIDEOUS interior
3. It didnt feel fast AT ALL. Promising initial noise then no 'go'.....

I wasnt comparing it to an 8, as its not comparable. However given the choice between the 4s and my supercharged 8 i would pick my 8 everytime.

I'm no fanboi, and have owned or driven a number of cool cars. IMHO Porches are massively overrated (and live off the rep of the ultra performance models)

But yeah, Cayman S is a driver's car just like the RX-8, except the Cayman is better, so when an 8 owner can't appreciate the Cayman, there is something missing in the translation.

 

He is a fan boy because he likes what his car offers over a car that doesn't? How so? Just because its a Porsche Carrera 4 doesn't meen its the holy grail of cars. I I agree with California Style, the interior does suck , the weird art decko paterns on the seats makes one want to puke , the seats are very uncomfortable , and after driving it for 10 min, your realize this Porsche is just ok, there are better Porsche cars to drive like the Cayman, etc.

After riding in a GT2 the Carrera 4 seemed a little stale.

I for one wouldn't even look at your car the Evo,its a souped up econo box, yes it handles, its very quick, but it looks ugly. I am sorry but looks still play a big part over speed, HP, Torque and handeling IMO. There are plenty of slower vehicles that I am sure your car can humiliate on and off the track , but i rather be driving the latter like a 300ZXTT,370Z, NSX,etc. You can have the fastet car on the planet and if it looks like crap , well more power to you if you can stomach the looks of it.

Now if you have speed,HP, torque and handeling and you have looks too, well that is a bonus!

 

lets not argue about whats better and why, lets just be happy for what we have in this economy, yeah you cant really come in to a rx8club and start talking about other cars are better.But i bet 99% of the people here would not trade in their 8 for the life of them. Go back to your piston engine like every other car

 

Just to prove I'm not a fanboi, if someone would give me a nice Maserati Quattroporte (prefer Black...), they can have my RX8.....

And Mich, yes, as an RX8 owner i supercharged mine to get the go that was missing......(Mich, also note I said I hadn't driven a Cayman, I had heard they were nice, but I'm only speaking from experience)
