MotorWeek - 2009 Mazda RX8 R3 On Track Test - July 10, 2009

You can't get a reasonably good 0-60 without launching at about 6500-7000 RPM. That's where I used to launch when measuring 0-60 with a Gtech. As an example, R&T got their 5.9 second 0-60 dropping the clutch at 7500 RPM. I've heard of folks launching at near redline. I never felt the need to do that.
Yep. Isn't much "edginess" there. I consider the show a good introduction to the car... covers the basics, and if you haven't already seen the car in person, you get the benefit of seeing the exterior, interior, controls and dash, trunk, and engine. I think viewing it on HDTV is better than looking at the stylized pics or animations on a website.
motorweek seems like a low-rent show in the best tradition of american car tv shows like motor trend tv, etc. it's like reading the summary comments box in car magazines, not terribly satisfying. ever since 5th gear and the new top gear, i really find these american shows not really watchable anymore

LOL, when I feel 'adventuresome', I launch between 4500-5000.. I never revv my car that high....especially at a launch...(tends to draw attention to yourself and cops might look your way!) I do redline in 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears..that's nice.

4-5 grand is pretty normal I would think when launching. when I drag raced my car I would launch at least at 4 grand. I started playing around and testing out different rpm's to launch at. Usually around 5k for me tho.....would like to get back out to a track some day and get things more dialed in.....fun times.
