actually i consider ash a freind- but as all good freinds do, sometimes we have a disagreement. its definetly not hostile. RG and i disagree over the future of Hydrogen. doesnt change our respect for each other. its just a disagreement. although i like poking him with the hydrogen stick when ever i see more infrastructure being built
I should point out that ash's "rotary is dead source" is correct from a certain point of view. its easy to see now , in hindsight, that his source at Mazda Australia has heard what we all have now- that RX-8 production/exportation to australia would cease this fall/winter. but that source had not heard the whole story or misinterpreted it. he simply didnt get the part that has since come to light- that the stoppage comes before a shift to making the new facelifted rx-8 so as to allow inventories to sell thru. the source simply didnt have the whole picture at that time.

This is absolutely TRUE!!!
The only reason for us to have a bigger RENESIS IS the fact that only this way the rotary can ALSO burn hydrogen without become 'anemic' by virtue of an increased torque.
There's no other reason!!!
Bigger engine means less gas mileage in an already VERY poor gas mileage car and more pollution from an already (comparatively speaking) VERY polluent car.
Hydrogen READY in a Bi-fuel arrangement is the ONLY answer!!!

I know we'll see hydrogen get more common. That doesn't mean that it still isn't a crap inefficient fuel that has a fraction of the power potential of a burning piece of paper.

There will be NO RX-7 just an 8 efficiently burning hydrogen... without the trunk (for the hydrogen tanks)!

You'll need to see a 2.6L before you see hydrogen performance even get close to the current engine on gasoline. Ford makes 210 hp on pure hydrogen with a supercharged V-10. Mazda makes about 100 hp on pure hydrogen. It burns too fast to be terribly powerful. When the world runs out of other fuel sources, and that will NEVER happen, then hydrogen will become viable. Until then it's nothing but a feel good fuel for the environmentalists.

Mazda has the intention of making hydrogen available in all their dealers in the following three years...
Just ask them...
As for the environmentalists I couldn't care less... it is just my wallet that I care about... me and Mazda of course!

Rotary steam engine....
I think i just found my new band name.
Hydrogen is the way of the future, but It really only works with fuel cells efficiently, and at this point, both fuel cells and hydrogen is to expensive.
Personally. I'm waiting for fusion reactors. Zero point energy will turn the world on its head.

It just happens that rotary DO is a crap engine for gasoline... BUT it ain't so for hydrogen (as opposed to piston engines) .
Lucky us... petrol is getting VERY expensive nowadays...

Until we find a way to store hydrogen not in a compressed gas form/liquid form. It won't be a good fuel for automobiles.
Later in the future I think we definitely will, just like the advancement in batteries due to nano science. We might one day see hydrogen stored in molecular complexes in a nano level. Then we have to wait for it to become commerically available at a reasonable cost.
