November Motor Trend - nice ad, wrong HP

So I got the November Motor Trend delivered today (the one with the Ford GT on the front) - anyhow I plop it down on the coffee table and it flops open to a big 2-page ad for the Rx-8 (the "Weight is the enemy" one)

Cool! A nice glossy 2-pager ad for a cool car that I own!

After reading through the text of the ad I was a little disappointed to see they are still mis-stating the 247 HP number.. you would have thought by now that they would update their PR material? I realize they need to get ads in for these magazines well in advance, but surely?? I was just a bit concerned that such things might fuel the fire lit under those folks that aren't happy about it.

I, for one, don't give a rats - I went for a blast up and down a mountain highway on Sunday in the 8 after doing the same run last weekend in the FD (I let my buddy drive the 8 who was in town for SevenStock) and I must say I found myself pushing harder in the 8 and having more fun! Heaven forbid now I'm considering selling the Rx-7 (again)!

Simon.

I suspect the lead time to place ads is such that the ad couldn't be revised or pulled in time to correct it (or delete it) for the November issue.

mikeb...how is it that you have a comment on just about every post on this forum? If your are the web-boss, my apologies since it is your job. Otherwise, how is it that you can be involved in every thread the minute it is posted? I think I hang around here too often (IMO), but you, my friend are in another ballpark. Get out, get a job, drive a car...basically please just let one thread go w/o posting some kind of opinion.

I agree, especially when most posts are two lines and add no content or value to the forum beyond a vacuous "i agree" or "welcome." It costs real money and resources to run this forum.

fo·rum (n)
1: a public meeting or assembly for open discussion
2: a public place to meet for open discussion

So what if he or anyone else spends a lot of time on the boards and replies to a lot of threads? If the forum owners have a problem with overuse of resources then they should contact him directly, I doubt the forum owner wants people speaking on their behalf.

re·straint (n)
1. The act or process of restraining, or of holding back or hindering from motion or action, in any manner; hindrance of the will, or of any action, physical or mental.

How about we all exercise some of that prior to shooting off snippy comments? If someone gets on your nerves, just take a deep breath and get over it.

i think that if the rx8 didnt have the hp problem the hp would be rated at 247hp, so mazda is putting the actual 247hp witout the hp loss, thats all, when someone asks u how much hp does the rx8 make u should answer about 247-250hp

and let mike posts as much as we wants, hes being nice to answer our threads, and he always posts in my threads so i thank him

anyways isnt this a free country???

check my post count. i comment on a good 80% of the threads in this forum. as long as the posts are not flamers, haters or bashers, there is room for everyone's comments. leave it alone

Interestingly enough, the current issue of C&D has no ad for the RX-8 (last month's had the 'weight' ad with the wrong HP). However, it did have a little blurb in there about the HP issue, and compared it to the Miata overrating problem. No mention that the performance specs were unchanged, which I found a bit surprising.
