All this "modernization" equipment like start button, bluetooh, MP3 capab, auto climate control ... should all have been in the 2007 model already...... Mazda is "finally" modernizing the RX-8 a bit and by the time 2009 rolls in, all this stuff that's being added to it would be found in a 2009 Yaris/Versa already....

They should have done this already on a $40k CAD car.

I cant be 100% certain but are the pics here showing the existing seats or possibly the new ones.

There is a quote as well "Leather 'sports' bucket seats are optional".

Cheers

I want the Bilstein dampers. I wonder if they're setup to match the mazdaspeed springs.

This release was about Canadian content. Their prices are considerably higher. You and I live here in the good old USA where the $ is sunk to historic lows about on par with a piece of Charmin you know what. All these nice higher content items prop won't make it here to keep the prices on the '09 down.

More likely they'll strip out most of what's offered now and give us the "race version" - sans most creature comforts we've had before!

aux in, MP3 capability, push button, auto climate for NA model.... just some of the stuffs that people have been asking since the beginning.... only tooked 5 model years to get here... how nice.

What are the colors that will be available? What is one touch retractable seat?

Besides the Sport, it didn't say anything about possible bumper and headlight/tailight change or interior change... things that generally take place in refresh... DSC is only available on Sport for Canadian???

I think 2009 US spec will be close to 2009 Canadian spec, but since Canadian only has GS and GT, where as US has Sport, Touring and Grand Touring, there will be difference how the options avaliable to each package. Most likely we will get everything listed under GS model and changes (don't like the rain sense... but whatever)

One possibility: Sport (Can) -> GT (US), GT (Can) -> Touring (US), GS (Can) -> Sport (US).

Another possiblility: Sport (Can) -> Shinka (or whatever they want to call it in US) , GT -> GT, GT (without one or two features) -> Touring, GS -> Sport

Should people wait for 2009? or buy the 2008 now (if 2007 is no longer available from their dealer)?

^^^They don't have to worry about me trading in my '04 for a "new" rx-8 either. Looks like I'll be trading it for a z instead. I'm sick of waiting for more power. In 5 years they've done nothing. I usually get a new car every 4 years. Feb. of '08 will be 4 years of having my 8, and there is nothing to upgrade to. Does mazda know they are always lagging behind? I love my car, but come on! More factory power please!

...what is the sound of one mouth yawning?

Mazda...must be a Japanese acronym for '*******'.

Why else would they make a platform with the potential of the RX-8, then neglect to make it faster than a Honda Accord?

As many of us have already stated many times, I am concerned about ANY continuing sales growth of the "new" RX-8 with NO gains in HP/Torque for MY2009.

Again those of us who have studied/worked on/overhauled/ owned the RENESIS 13B rotary I just can not see where ANY performance gains can be engineered without inlet or exhaust add ons as this is the ONLY direction Mazda can go with the 13B, Mazda have squeezed out ALL they can from this motor internally.

SO, What will happen to sales in the US and other keen export markets, just some minor "accessory" changes and inclusions IMO are not enough.
Recaro Seats, 19" Alloys, Speed Sensing Wipers, ETC is just dressing.

With the 16X YEARS away before we see this gasoline engine for REAL IF at all in a Mazda body?
Gas prices IMO will sadly halt its birth as I now see the 16X as a concept only for a future Hybrid/Hydro set up. This way Mazda will have the powerful gas performer many want, and in Hydro mode a vastly improved set up.
With this combo Mazda will also achieve tougher emission regulations beyond 2012.

Hi all.

I'm glad to see some of the possible additions to the 2009 RX8.

BUt am disappointed that the new rotary engine will not make it into the car and the power and torque output are the same!

Nevertheless, i look forward to seeing the new car as i'm told by the local Singapore Mazda Sole Distributor to hold on to my purchase till 1st qurater of 2008 when the 'facelifted' model arrives.

But as for now, only 1 variant of the RX8 is sold here officially here in Singapore for around SGD$125,000 inclusive of all relevant taxes.

The current 2007 FE32, 6MT variant comes with HID lamps, integrated rear spoiler, keyless immobiliser, 18 inch' rims, sunroof, climatic control, 2 tone full leather seats, integrated audio system with controls on steering wheel, electric front seats, 4 airbags, leather wrapped steering wheel and gear shifter etc (just to name a few key goodies).

I hope the 'facelifted' 2008 model can improve on these equipment levels and indeed, i hope the 19 inch rims, recaros and bilstein shocks do make it here in Singapore. One thing is for sure that the official import will for the 1st time in so many years of RX8's existence, be available officially in 6-speed auto.

I really hate it that the rx8s in Thailand are so stripped down they don't even come with cruise control.............

but back to the main point, I think if Canada is going to get those specs, I'm sure USA will get them too, from what I can deduce, MNAO includes both Canada AND USA no?

Special seats likely won't meet side airbag regs, so they probably won't show up.

Me too. I have about 8,000 miles to find a new car. I love my car, but I don't want it after the powertrain warranty is up. With all the problems I've had already, I would rather sink a lot of money into a newer car than spend a ton replacing the engine or tranny on this one. I just don't trust it.

No true, recaro have a number of OEM seats that have airbags http://www.recaro.com/index.php?id=2599&region=3&L=2

I've never met an automatic climate control that I liked to be honest. That's a step backwards in my opinion.

Nope. They are two different entities. In Canada it's Mazda Canada Inc. Whereas in US - MNAO.

The listed option like bluetooth, Start button and auto climate control are useless to me. My other car has Auto Climate control and I still have to fiddle with it. It sounds great, but in reality makes no difference.
If they can't make more hp out of the 13b, they should atleast strip out more stuff to lose weight.
In anycase I am glad there aren't much changes with the 09 rx-8. It means slower depreciation for mine.

It still doesn't have the standard feature like the '99 miatas had.... "headlights equipped with flash to pass function". I'm currently selling my 9-2x and buying a rx-8
