Thanks for the pics though.
It's nice to see that mazda has not discarded the 6 port design. I just hope I don't have to wait too long to actually see this engine in action.

I could see it on the other thread you posted.. it certainly does look like, from the picture you posted, that it's a 4 port and the AUX port is blocked.. But you're still crazy, and you never share enough good info with those of us from texas

It definitely looks like a 4 port with the aux ports blocked off. However, could it be that they just showed the 4 port config for the AT cars (as it's similar to the current 4 port design), and that there may still be a 6 port coming for the MT cars?

Maybe release the 4 port first for the RX-8 and then the 6 port with the following vehicle. Why would they do that? Maybe they know how weak the RX-8 transmission is?

1) The engine cannot rev higher than 7500rpm, hence the 4 port.
2) They will turbo this to put in a MS8 and 4 port works better
3) The ports are large enough to breath to 8500rpm
4) 4 port engine is lighter
I would like to see a 6port available tho. If the engine makes ~265hp@7000rpm, its gonna make a lot more at 8500rpm. If the ports are large enough to breath to 8500rpm, 2 extra ports mean more power at ~10000+rpm, assuming the exhaust ports can handle the flow.
However it is only applicable in a race car, as either option would take the engine out of factory suggested limits for a production car.
Although an engine that makes 265hp@7000rpm is much better than 265hp@8500rpm, I personally would prefer the higher revving engine.
A 6-port engine that makes 265hp@8500rpm that could flow more would be perfect. So the aftermarket can unlock more hp at higher rpm , and we can use that power at our own risks.

Whether we will (Australia) see the 6 port/speed Auto in the new model next year is yet to be confirmed.
I do not think even the UK has had the 6 speed/port Auto.

Your not the only one UP ^^ THERE...(1957, You).
And yeah,I have flip flopped more on this issue than a politician, YES this display 16X IS a 4 Port not a 6...BOY!

My thoughts: 4 port for the AT and the 6 port for the MT, also we will see a new Tranny.
Thats my 2nd prediction

4 port is lightter and sympler for a small light weight car?
6 port more power more complex for a larger more heavy car?
maybe they got what they wanted out of a 4 port engine?
I think this is positive, if they got 20% more power and torque from a 4 port imagine what they can get out of a 6 port

Come on Mazdaspeed RX-8...16X+7 Speed Trans...
THATS worthy of the Mazdaspeed badge right thar...

I don't think Mazda dumped the 4-port--aren't they still selling the low-power 4-port 5-speed RX-8 in Europe and other countries?

I know why it is a 4 port
the car that this is going to be in does not have enough space for the 6 port intake manifold, the engine is going to be almost between the driver and passenger
