thanks for the pics easy. it's a little anticlimactic to see the new version after all the R3 and MS pictures that had been leaked early on. i'm happy to hold onto my current version until they make more modifications.

For all the HYPE, I think that Mazda failed. I personally am a bit disappointed.
You know I'll end up buying one in a couple of years, but I hope that they have the 16X in it by then. That would make it worth while. For now, they have not upgraded it the way it needed to be to compete with the new cars that are coming out.

i was really trying to like them since everyone was bashing just because it was a facelift change and the MS and R3 were growing on me. however, the base model really isn't anything special and if you're throwing down all that extra cash for the R3 or MS you can get a lot more power and appearance mods to your existing. darn, i really wanted to like it too.

Will the longer stroke change the sound of the motor much? And, won't it idle a lot rougher?

I wonder if they're working on a solution for on/off starts... Delayed fuel injection if the PCM registered a shutoff before reaching 'nominal' temp would be my best guess as a solution. Then from their just tweaking it. It would be nice if they made it 'dummy proof' so typical combustion Engine drivers won't think anything different of a rotory.

Exhaust note wise. an addition .8 volume per rotor right? And they've also narrowed down the width? Sounds like a combination for increased compression. I wonder if they'll go forged rotors this time around? Assuming the exhaust port shape and size doesn't change much, i'd guess the tone would be near the same.

My biggest questions are...

1. Will it be 298hp to the flywheel (i'd be happy with a 298 vs 300...)

2. Will they refine the tranny so it doesn't wine in neutral... c'mon we spent 30k new... And can they bulletproof it to handle 12k rpms if need be ... hehehehehe

3. How many oil injectors will it need to be 'dummy' proof. i mean, if it's electronic you'd hope it would scale flow if it has the ability to monitor temperatures. (i'm guessing production models won't)

4. Can they let the customer opt in Bride Brix 2 seats in place of the Recaro's . ok this isn't engine specific, but if i can hang the *** end of the car near the top of 3rd gear in a high speed drift.. i want a seat that will hold my *** in .

what's the redline going to be on the 16X? does it use the same mount points as the RENESIS?

I'd imagine the redline wouldn't move from the Renesis. Of course, I'm just speaking out my *** on that, but I'd just imagine they wouldn't lower/raise it. It's REALLY high in comparison the way it is...

I'm not saying I wouldn't mind if they jumped it up another 1k

I've heard people bumping up there rev limit to 10k with the current 8. There's some concern to transmission durability, so i don't know if it could handle 11k. Apex seal issues aside...

If the 16x can land 320hp to the flywheel with an flat power curve to 5k, then an exponential increase as it climbs to the 9k limit. I think that would be ideal, it would allow smooth expected driving around town when kept under 5k. Then explosive acceleration past 5k. (Yeah kinda vtec ish request), but right now i've noticed the 8 explodes at 7k, which seems a little late.... especially if shift points are about 1.8k-rpm in difference. Anyone with the intent of aggressive driving/racing would have alot of power to play with a 4k-rpm hp curve...

Basically i'm excited to see the dyno charts for the 16x... power curve is going to be key, and if they can raise the rpm limit safely to 10k-rpm would be awesome (Meaning make the tranny with cryogenic & shot peened parts, and forged instead of cast rotors).

yeah, those stinkin combustion engines, im glad our rotories run off of electricity.

So the 2009 doesn't have a 16X, but has significantly more N/A hp? Compression increase? That would explain the overheating issues.

As i live in the world of Tangants, the Rotary is a combustion engine.. touché. I guess i should recall my last statement, piston engines.... vs rotory
