You seriously think I did not understand the metaphor?
When the slang phrase "***** deep" was coined there was, at least in an abstract sense, a ***** involved.
I, too, was speaking metaphorically in response to your comment related to BHR's ability to develop something along the lines of an entire engine. My metaphor was used to replace the most important element; money.

The rotary is less versatile in its applications compared to a piston engine. The rotary makes a good generator. From a NVH perspective it means you can run the engine at higher RPMs with superior characteristics to a 3/4-cyl. The comment regarding complicated intakes they've fashioned for past engines leads me to believe they're going to optimize the intake for specific RPMs, for instance in a generator deployment, rather than being flexible through the rev range, same with the low-end torque comment. It also allows Mazda to keep their marketing connection to the rotary and deliver something potentially superior to what others are doing. Their rotary know-how gives them a bit of a leg up over others who might want to start using rotaries (eg. Audi - yes they have some very old experience, but it probably doesn't translate well and they hired a 3rd party to design their engine).
