In the race battle vs. the S2K, FD, and STI, the RX-8 was NOT FI. All cars were as I said lightly tuned with mostly suspension and other minor mods. All the engines were STOCK.

For example, the mods to the RX-8 were:
- upgraded clutch
- Mazdaspeed LSD
- upgraded springs
- Mazdaspeed brake pads
- Yokohama Advan Neova AD07 tires

The RX-8 started first, lost the lead to the WRX STi on the first lap, but then the RX-8 took a bit of a short cut on the track to take back the lead. The RX-8 then held the lead until the end of the 3 lap battle. Tsuchiya-san jokingly said it was his wet weather technique which won him the race.

The race was really to show that even underpowered, the RX-8's suspension could hold off more powerful cars on a twisty track. However, the drivers all stated that they wish the RX-8 had the power of the FD RX-7.

Finishing order:
1) RX-8
2) S2000
3) RX-7
4) WRX STi

Found one at Target yesterday for 70 bucks, this thing is awesome, all the vids floating around of "top gear" etc.. that I've downloaded on my pc can play on my tv now! Obviously it doesn't support all formats, but so far almost everything I've burned to cd plays

There is no english subtitles nor voice overs, so all you get is visual stimulation...I don't know if I want to fork over that kind of money and not understand what they are saying. I think in the next couple of months, they will release a copy that will have voice overs or english subtitles.

Dude, Canaray, do you have a copy of that dvd? I can't find it on Ebay, Amazon, or anything else for that matter. Got a link or contact I can buy it from? I tried that one link earlier and it said the auction ended already.

Thats great Canary :D. Although, it won't play ALL formats, but at least it plays the major things that is important . Wish it supported ogm, but oh wellz, thats what my DVI cable is for! If you get the copy of the DVD, share share......anime has helped me understand japanese, so I don't mind if it has no subs.

Sounds like what happened to me when I went to the track.

Was kicken butt on SC2000,WRX STI, there was one supercharged FD, but he never caught up to us.

They kill us in the straights. Need more power.

I don't know a whole lot about dvd ripping etc.., is it possible for me to share it without a dvr, or will I need one and some software to try and turn it into avi, wmv, etc etc.? I might also try and set up a streaming media server off my Win2003 server, but again I've never tried doing anything like that with a dvd etc..

Yeah, i feel like a red headed step child out on the straights too, but when the corners come my fairy godmother pays me a visit to even out the score. still a fast car out on the track, if its a curvy track. i like things curvy anyway, roads, hair, women. :p its better that way :D

I will go through all my legally purchased software programs when I get home. Do you want the dvd to cd program, or the dvd to dvd program?

I will just need a way to put it in a format that is viewable on this site etc.., so any advice/assistance in that area would be much appreciated, I don't mind sharing it at all, just don't know how to (doh!)

The best thing would to probably shrink the dvd down to cd size, but then you'll need someone willing to host around 600-700mb. Should be home in a few hours, can you pm me your email addy. I'll send you the files that way.

Love that statement :D. Canary, most likely you will need a program that will change the format of the file to an .avi, .wmv, .mpeg, etc., because most ppl will d/l it and then watch it on their PCs (and compressing it to a smaller file). The programs to do the conversions are very user friendly to use, just follow the directions and it should be a breeze. Or you can ask Moostafa to help you out with his "legal softwares"

just a note to say the DVD arrived today and it is awesome! I hope I can share it, even though I couldn't understand hardly any of what they were saying, the driving and the different Rx8s definitely made it worth it, they have the Feed Rx8, the JIC drift 8 with the 13b in it, a turboed 8, a beginning segment with the 787b, they have some other entertaining stuff like the "mycar" battles where one of the contestants had an rx7 that burned Tsuchiya's foot, apparently heavily massaged rotaries generate a lot of heat and the floorpan cooked homedude's foot! All in all some cool car-geek viewing, I'm currently working on converting it and my "rotary reborn" dvd into pc-friendly formats so that I can throw them out somewhere for viewing by my rotary breathren/homechicks oh, and on another note, it played w/o a hitch on the Phillips DVP-642 dvd player, guees I'll be ordering a lot more of these now that I can watch them (woohoo!)

Finally watched it. The RX8 came in 1st, but it had the slowest best laptime and time attack and it appears this wasn't a real race... well, without understanding what they're saying, that's the impression I got. Also, the STI was constantly held back by whatever car was in front of it.

I told you guys, the race was to show the RX-8's handling could hold off more powerful cars on a twisty track. It really wasn't meant to be an all out battle, we all know the FD and STi can take it under most conditions - as the engines were stock. The RX-8's time wasn't that far off the S2000's, but the RX-7 & STi times were quite a bit faster.

The track was damp as well, which made it harder for the cars to pass. If you ever watched the F1 Monaco GP, you know a slower car in the front can win the race 'cause it's a twisty tight circuit. That's what happened in this case. Also, the STi goes wide at one point, and that's when the S2K and RX-7 pass it.

After the race, Manabu Orido looks at the RX-8 and commets that it's fast - in a kind of acknowledging way. That's when Tsuchiya-san kind of laughs and says it was his "rain technique".

The race was to highlight the RX-8's potential and handling merit. That's why the next segments then focus on upgrading the power. First with the NA FEED RX-8, then the Greddy Turbo RX-8, and finally (for kicks) the 500+ hp 13B-REW powered D1GP JIC RX-8 Drift car from the 2004 D1 series.

The HOT1 GP segment was just for fun to show the near stock RX-8 (same car from the race) can drift pretty well.

In the closing segment, Tsuchiya-san also hints that maybe with the evolution of the RX-8, we'll see a more powerful version along the lines of the FD RX-7. Or at least, that seemed to be their wish. "But it's really up to the maker (i.e. Mazda)" he says.
