I'm pretty sure my ins thinks that there is no engine. Everytime I call up they ask for the missing peice of info...: what engine type it is. I tell them, they scratch their heads and I just roll my eyes as I launch into yet another explaination of what a rotary is... :D

Yeah mine too, its listed as a 1300cc 4 door family sedan.
In my country where import taxes for sports car will double the price of the car
Im getting low tax, low insurance... same with say a mini Hyundai.
But hey Im not complaining or breaking the law....
It is! a 1300cc 4 door "family sedan"...

Yeah. I love the insurance on this car. I do believe though that this is temporary, and premiums will go up, but still be very good. I plan on trading my RX8 in for a MS RX8, depending on how much more powerful it is, and i have a feeling my insurance is gonna go up. We'll see!!

I got a letter in the mail last month stating that my insurance (State Farm) was changing the classification of my car. They apparently realized it wasn't just another 1.3L 4 door sedan, which is what it was classified as before. My rate went up close to $30/month.

Ok, I admit I'm new to rotaries, so please don't flame me for asking a stupid question. I saw someone above state this is a 4 spark plug car. I can only see two listed in the manual, a hot and a cold plug. Is it 2 or 4 plugs? Aside from looking, which I haven't obviously, please advise.
Thanks,
Scott

going with your parents agent seems to be a winning combination for state farm, on the website i got quoted $2400 or so a year for what i wanted in coverage, i then talked to my dad's agent and he got me just over $1300 a year, which rocks.

My insurance premium is the same on my 8 as it is on my Intrepid!!!!!!!!!!!!!! HAH! Still no letter yet from state farm telling me of a premium hike and I was there taking a life insurance policy out on me yesterday. Figure this out...I get a $50k life insurance policy and it gives all the cars in my family that are insured with them (5) a multi-line discount. The total discount comes out to considerably more than what I pay for the life insurance. It's like getting a free life insurance policy in a kinda sorta way:-)

My insurance policy lists the RX8 as a "CPE" for coupe, but with 2 cylinders, 1.3L displacement, and 4 doors. The insurance on my RX8 is about 10-15% less than what it was on my 1993 Ford Probe GT -- and the insurance on the PGT was not a whole lot, actually.
Beyond the four door thing, the RX8 received 4- and 5-star safety and crash ratings from NHTSA for offset frontal, frontal, rear, and, most notably, side impacts. Furthermore, the RX8 was rated among other four door vehicles, like the camry, accord, taurus, and Mazda 6. It was judged and rated within a class of automobiles that generally outperforms "sports cars," "sporty cars," and "coupes" by a very wide margin.
I doubt my insurance rates are going to go up any time soon due to the insurance company "discovering" that the RX8 is a "sports car." It's safety standards performance so far is obviously beyond reproach, even as a "family sedan," which it certainly is not.
Bottom line: we're driving a superbly performing car -- with respect to not only driving dynamics, but also overall safety.
Ciao!

My insurance is Progressive.. just got it myself, since my previous car was actually on my parents policy due to my buying it over 13 years ago..
Now that I'm in my own home, 33 and bought it myself, It was time to get my new policy..
I was quite suprised that my policy was only $636 for 6 months (1272 for year if premiums stay the same).
I was actually paying only $15 less a month for my 93 Eagle Talon with all my parents discounts.. I expected a much larger hike due to it being a new car and a sports car (The talon had only 98 hp so it wasn't considered a sportscar by the old insurance company).
Rate I got seemed quite nice... progressive breaks it down point-by-point if anyone's interested.. you can go to thier site and play 'what-if' before you buy.
Mined ended up being:
