RX-8 featured in Fast and Furious - Neela's car

The girly image of the car could hurt. What will really hurt the image is the documented power that it makes and the numbers. An enthusiast looking to purchase a car will see those numbers anf think, the 8 is weak. From what I'm reading the movie is plastered with blown Z cars but we get one 8 that's not even properly tuned for power. Really makes the 8 look bad to one who knows little about it. Regarding he tunability of the 8, I think most would agree, it will never be as popular as the 7, unless Mazda ups the ante.

there was a scc article where they tested a bunch of the cars from the 2nd F&F movie, and all of them except one performed much worse than stock.
stock gt-r as tested by SCC: Quarter Mile Time: 13.3 sec.
Quarter Mile Speed: 103.7 mph
0-60 mph: 5.07 sec.
2f2f gt-r as tested by SCC: Quarter Mile Time: 14.1 sec.
Quarter Mile Speed: 101.0 mph
0-60 mph: 6.0 sec.
the f&f crew has a way of destroying cars they get a hold of.

In those pics, they have MUCH nicer-looking 5-spoke wheels and the front bumper has better fit than in the pics you posted.

Every movie like this features multiples of the same car and a "hero car" which is to be photographed but not driven so they won't have to worry about it being damaged. Every other replica made is fair game for abuse from the stuntmen or whatever. Obviously
Edmunds didn't recieve the hero car.
I doubt the movie will really have any negitive effect on the car. They're already rare enough as it is and the last generation RX7 sold like crap here too. It wasn't until years later that people started to want one. If anything women will see it and instantly want one - or want to be with someone who has one.:P Guess I'll find out from the audience's reaction tomorrow.

You guys keep talking about if this movie will hurt or help the 8's image. What exactly does that mean? Are you saying that people actually judge the car based on performance figures from a movie prop, or base thier car purchasing decision on which gender drove the car in a movie? It's an over-the-top action movie, obviously not grounded in reality. Ah, maybe I give people too much credit.

The sad thing is, people DO judge a car on stuff they see in the movies, the general public in america, especially consumers aren't exacly that bright. Hell, I'm american and I see this all the time. Kids go see this movie and then go home and whine and bitch to mommy and daddy till they get one (of course 1 month later they wrap it around a tree or concrete barricade in a parking garage haha)
I havent gone to see this movie (dunno if i will either) but I would have been much happier if our 8 had not been in it at all. Even if it was the "hero" car I would have opted for it not being in. I like my RX8 because its rare, its a mystery and it had the general feel of being a mature persons car. (i.e. its now a common car for a bunch of wussy kids who think they are badass)

Well, as they say, "no press is bad press." I owned an FD at the time that the first FATF movie came out, and it went from a car that nobody recognized to one that everyone was familiar with very quickly. This also created a boom in the aftermarket for the car and also in collectable stuff such as RX-7 diecasts. I didn't see the movie and thought that the Veilside RX-7 in it was ugly as hell, but I don't think it "hurt" anything... it's actually kind of cool that two of my cars have had supporting roles in major feature films, even though they aren't my kind of movies.

personally who cares? its a movie everything looks good in a movie they aren't going to stop the movie and have a guy talking about how much the car sucked on the dyno. It will look sweet in the movie and people will love it. As for the people that look at that movie and see what that car's performance was in the movie and say o that car sucks, well screw them they have no clue about the 8 and shouldn't buy one. I think it'd be better if it wasn't in the movie because that'd mean less people would know about it and not just buy it. I loved seeing just one rx-8 a week now I see so many more on the road, not saying that's necessarily a bad thing but ya know. Anyway anyone actually see the movie yet? I think I'll go see it this friday, or will I be wasting gas money? lol
