RX-8 Mention in May issue of Men's Journal
Saw this in the Cars section:
****************
MUSCLE FOR THE REAL WORLD
Mazda's RX-8 is a sports car with space
There was a time when the words four and door, conjoined, put enthusiasts to sleep more quickly than C-SPAN. But both the Evolution and the new Mazda RX-8 prove there's more than one way to get into a fast car. The RX-8 has two shortened rear doors that swing out saloon style, making ingress easier and allowing the RX-8 to look conventionally sporty, with a low hood, short windows, and powerful wheel arches. Between the front wheels is a 1.3-liter rotary engine in two states of tune: a 210-horsepower four-speed automatic model for $25,180 and a 250-horsepower six-speed manual version for $26,680. To put those engine-displacement-to-output numbers in perspective, imaging a 4.0-liter motor producing 770 horsepower without the aid of a turbo- or supercharger. A hybrid of sports sedan and sports car, the RX-8 is a welcome blurring of category lines, a speed demon attuned to the realities of everyday driving.
***************
They show a picture of a red one, front view, with all doors open. Their biggest mistake was doing a much more detailed article (3/4 page) on the 2003 Mitsu Evo, and relegating the RX-8 to the bottom-right corner. I don't subscribe to this mag (but for some reason they're sending it to me anyway), but they seem to be about what's new and hip. They really missed the boat...
