RX-8 to be in NFS: Underground 2
#31
NFS underground, while not being completely terrible, cannot even begin to compare with a game like Project Gotham 2 or TOCA 2. It's just a game to appease the F&F crowd and casual gamers. Adding stickers and ricer junk to sentra's and civics is dumb and the game itself was boring, easy, and far too arcadey to be considered even close to a driving simulator. Add to that the fact that the only worthy car in the game was the 3rd gen RX-7. Its a good game as long as you don't compare it to anything.

A Playstation magazine is out with the NFSU2 on the cover. I found one with the 350Z and a chick and another with the same chick but with the RX-8 (red). Pretty cool how they captured the details on the headlights and taillights. But for some reason, the 8 looks wider than it usually is on their pics. Has anyone checked this mag out? I forgot what it was called. It basically has a hybrid asian/white chick on the cover leaning her back on the 8. The headline says "Everything you want to know about NFSU 2"

The game is fun, but it's no Gran Turismo IMO. The thing that makes it so famous is that they use cars that people actually own or see everyday. The other racing games are fun too, but putting "strictly exotic cars" just doesn't have that familiar feeling gamers chase after. I, for one, get easily bored with those $100K-car racing games.

I know its not supposed to be a simulation and it excels at not being a simulation. The "races" are all basically in straight lines and take little to no skill to win. I simply cannot have more than a couple of hours of fun with a game that has such incredibly fake physics. I can see the appeal in having "real" cars like civics and whatnot but those cars are boring to me and I am not into ricey body kits and graphics. The original need for speed games were fun, especially the first one when it came out on 3DO and playstation, but they have had a slow and steady decline ever since. Underground was just trying to be the first F&F game to hit the market and they succeeded which is apparent in the incredible sales figures that game has posted. I hate most EA games anyway, they are totally soft-core and EA is concerned more with making money for stockholders than making good games. If you enjoyed the game thats great but this is my opinion.

It has been mentioned that this time, the game will feature heavy visual damage to all the cars, unlike NFSU. Also, Licensed kits from Veilside etc will be included for the cars they were designed for. It has also been suggested that instead of just slamming in some new shocks and hey presto, better handling, you will actaully be able to tune the settings, although not as highly as Gran Turisimo.

I hated how in the first one, you HAD to rice your car out in order to continue. All the cars looked like crap to me. Then I saw a Honda Civic drifting and never played the game again. Hopefully the second one fixes these flaws....

bring on GT4, reports are that it will have over 400 cars.....<drool> including the 8,new NSX, an LM edition 8 (I think) and more tracks than GT3, plus real pit crews and interactive crowds etc., arrrgh can't wait. I liked NFSU, there were times where it was maddening (just like any other game) but it was fun more than aggravating so the next one should be a kick. I can't wait to hear the sound in GT4, GT3 had incredible sound, especially after adding exhaust.
