You compromise on weight to get a usable back seat. If you don't want a back seat, get an FD. You'll thank me in the morning.
If I could have gotten a new FD (with a warranty) for < $40K, I would have. But for the $27K I spent for the RX8, I would have gotten a 10 year old FD with 40K miles. I seriously considered it -- but no thanks. I like the back seat every once in a while, but I'd rather not have it.

Also, a sport 8 is only about 400 lbs heavier than a Miata.

Very very inspiration read. As i build up my FC, the idea of performing on the same level as an RX8 always crosses my mind. Straight line speed is easily attainable on turbocharged cars, but i really intend on getting the feel of an FD or RX8 in terms of handling.

Everytime my father tells me i should have bought a car with a v8, i just say "This is not just a car."

Yes, if you're talking about the lightest 8 and the heaviest new MX-5. But even there, 400 lbs is nothing to sneeze at. Don't get me wrong, I love my 8, but I was just trying to inject a dose of reality about the 8 being a compromise sports car. Every car is a compromise. You either get it, or you don't. The particular compromise either fits what you're looking for, or not. I can't think of any other true 4-seater that is as much of a sports car as the 8, at least not at this price point or even close to it. But it's still a 4-seater. It's amazing how well the 8 compares with an s2k or 350z or Solstice, but imagine an 8 that's about 3 feet shorter without the suicide doors.

Yah. Call it whatever you want, an RX 7, an RX 9, or a rotary Miata, a two-seat 2500 lb rotary that gets 30 mpg is what I want next.

That's easily the best looking RX-8 I've ever seen in the photo for that article

that's weak. try again.

I think the statement "as a driver, you either get it or you don’t" is true. Either you understand the qualities of a driver's car and get it. Others will just pop in as insecure trolls trying to justify against it in an effort to feel good for not "getting it". Get it?

Ok I will try again,

your comment had no basis. I never said that a car was an investment, I only commented on the steep depreciation of the 8. Your knee jerk reaction was to insult my current autos.

I think the MX-5 miata is a very good "drivers car" as well.

Should be easier and not necessarily expensive to make it even lighter than a Miata. Coupes are lighter than convertibles and the 16x wil be all aluminum and 20% lighter than the Renesis, which is already lighter than the 4-banger in the Miata. It will be 20% more powerful than the curent Renesis and a little more fuel efficient because of direct injection, not to mention ligher weight. Mazda has to build this car!
