Thats a remarkable review. I haven't read any of this guys reviews b4. Maybe he waxes poetic about everything. I disagree about the automatic being preferable to the stick. I don't understand that at all.

Yes, any reporter who loves the 8 is obviously a fanboy. Reporters can love Porsches, BMWs and Ferraris 'cause hey, those are great cars—but anyone who loves an 8 is a fanboy.

"Ferrari? - who needs a Ferrari!!"
"You can?t just drive this car - you have to DRIVE!!! this car at top speed everywhere. I hate to say this, but the automatic might be the one to buy?"
and
"The sound system is fantastic..."

Good post
The dude actually drove an 8 before commenting and I think he is hooked!
I agreed with him on the shift - (yah yah I know) The first 8 I tried, a silver 04, had what I considered a Ford truck shifter - nasty! And I was driving a 323 stick! So I went for an automatic on the 8! Even so, I can pop it into a state where I can use the wheel shifters when I disagree with it's computer or when I want a little more torque...
Sure, the 8 is not a race car - but not many cars can do 250 -
One of my neighbors has a little car that can do 205 and is on the circuit with his son (their new car does the 250!)
But the 8 could follow an ambulance - just did it, legally at 110 mph- And I knew that I could pass it if I really needed to - even automatic 8s rule!

True, some of those comments (audio, automatic trans) are questionable. But… his excitement of the 8 driving experience matches up amazingly close to mine! I haven't seen that sense of excitement much in other reviews (lots of kudos, respect and admiration—but not so much the emotion).

I'm sorry, it's hard to talk **** about someone who gives your car a good review, but this guy is just an idiot. He basically tries to make love to the car through his article and then says we need to buy an automatic, please. I'm not going to say that the 8's clutch is the easiest to master, and I, having not driven a stick in 4 years, had my growing pains. But this guy is a supposed "car reviewer/ road tester." The fact that I can drive a stick better than him is a complete joke. The fact that someone who is supposed to be a "car guy" recomends an automatic is a joke(especially on a sports car). The whole website is a joke. Quoting his review on the Dodge Nitro: "DaimlerChrysler are on a roll with their vehicles these days and the Nitro just keeps that steam roller momentum going." What? Steam Roller? Unbelievable. I love my car, and most of his article reads about how I would describe it to myself, but as a critic his review is an absolute joke. "You don't drive this car...you DRIVE it.." or whatever the hell he kept saying. Jesus, thank god for the guys at Top Gear - gave the car great reviews, didn't pull punches where they had gripes, knew how to drive a stick, and didn't blow smoke up my *** about how I had to "DRIVE" the car. It's a sports car idiot, I'm 22, of course I'm going to "DRIVE" it, I "DROVE" my '88 volvo. Writing "drive" in all caps does not mean you are creative, it means you are an *** clown. There, I said it. Here's the Top Gear review for good measure: Top Gear > paddockass.

"The six-speed manual?s gate is very close and many times I thought I was in 4th gear when in fact I was in 6th - because the engine revs so high, you think you?re in the wrong gear. Combined with the stiff shifting and the difficulty of modulating it with the clutch, this is quite likely the only car for which I would ever recommend an automatic transmission - and dare I say it - flappy-paddle gear shifting on the steering wheel!"
WHY OF WHY DOES HE REVIEW CARS ???
btw I didn't bother reading this crap the comment about the auto did it for me.

I don't get the issue with the MT. Drive a Mazda 6 with a 5 speed MT, that one took awhile to master & I've been driving sticks for a long time. RX8 was notable as to how easy it was to drive quickly & smoothly in just a few shifts. My wife noted it also. I bought my car used, maybe it takes some time for a new clutch to break in.

I don't see why he suggested the automatic period. Unless you have one arm (or leg) and still want to be in a sports car, there is no excuse for buying an automatic RX-8. Period. It's a sports car, not a buick. If you want an auto there are probably much better cars to buy than an 8, like a Maxima (my grandma has one, she likes it.)
If you've never driven a stick before, learn. If the 8's is hard to get used to, grow some *****.
I'm sorry but no one can ever convince me that the auto 8 is a better option.

That was one of the most ridiculous reviews I've read.

I learned to drive in an MT car. I decided I could live with driving in "manushift" for a while to decide the other issues.
In a few more months, I can sell/trade for a new MT. Will only owe 14-15k and have about 18k miles, 18 month warranty on the car. I think I will do fine.
Just can't believe I get called out as a "grandma" with "no *****" on Rx8club.com
