RX8 Dec & 2006 sales
A classic from this section, but surprisingly not posted before today :
http://media.ford.com/mazda/article_...ticle_id=25154
9343 RX8´s sold in USA last year
552 of them in December
Let us see who is the first to say "it will be discontinued"
I personally think sales are not that bad, provided the lack of marketing behind this car and the real tech-performance updates since the release in mid 2003 (none).
Is Mazda just "idling" till may 2007 to unlease a new RX8 with a Renesis DI to celebrate the 40th aniversary of the Cosmo 110s? Call me Mr. wish if you want.
Let the debate about sales begin!!!
Cheers

i long for a DI renesis and when it comes out, i hope i have this 8 paid off so i can trade it in and get the DI MSP!
releasing a DI for the 40th anniversary sounds like a great idea....but 40 years in america is 2010, 2007 is 40 yrs in japan so releasing a 40 anniversary over here until then makes not as much sense.......
i dont care how little rx8s they sell, in 4 yrs when mines paid off ill be back to get another rx8.

The important question is, would you have a Z4M instead of an RX8?
I wouldn't. Stylewise, that's like paying extra for a front wheel arch delete on an RX8.
Why is it so heavy for a car that size?

They did better this year than I expected. They only sold 5,330 less RX-8s here than they sold in 2005. I thought it was going to be much worse than that considering they made almost no changes to the car except for an upgrade to the AT and some minor bullshit.
But did you notice that the for the few months the CX-7 has been available, it accounted for almost two years worth of RX-8 sales?

Well, look on the brightside. That's still 3000 more units sold in 2006 then the S2000 which has been out twice as long, is totally impractical, and purchased as a weekend/summer cruiser, is only available in one trim, costs a lot more $$, and hasn't changed much either since it was released in 1999. Congrats.

You're going to compare it to the S2000 but not the 350Z or G35 Coupe?
350Z sales for 06: 24,635
G35 Coupe sales for 06: 20,395
There were more 350Zs sold last year than RX-8s in 2 years.
Ouch.

I was using the S2000 as a comparison to shed the only light available on the miserable market failure of the RX8, and to make fun by comparing a car that the RX8 should be selling three times as many of. You just added further insult, and the RX8 defendees are on their way to this thread.
