RX8 videogate uproar makes autoweek

gotta love the power of the internet. for those that may not be aware, autoweek is a subset of automotive news, which is the industry's premier news rag.
I love how the guy in the video is actually from the DFW area where I'm working, I didn't make that connection before.

though it will not make a huge difference in how Mazda thinks about thier customers, they will just find a more secure way to distribute it, but it does raise the awareness of RX8 owners when they run into issues that the dealers give them a hard time about repairing...

If anyone wants the vid, pm me and I'll give you the link. Gotta go back to work, so it'll be later today. I don't want to post it here, to prevent trouble between Mazda and Rx8club.

The article is NOT about blowing the lid off of how sleazy (the nerve!) Mazda is with its RX-8 customers, despite the fact that many here believe that's what the story should be. Yes, the article does explore what's going on between Mazda, its dealers, and RX-8 owners, but that's not why the story made it to Autoweek.

except i still would have heard and still would have posted about it. it was several dealer folks that i have met that alerted me to it in the first place- they thought it was a bad deal and wanted me to know so i could tell you people. they can do it all one on one in the future but they will still be telling people that tell me.

I still haven't talked with my service dept. at my dealership about this "news"
I will be getting the oil changed this week and I am curious as to what they think about
all this hoopla.
Personally I don't think Mazda is going to just kick us to the curb.
I like the mention of "RX8club.com"

The story has an ironic twist. After the broadcast, J.D. Power and Associates issued customer-satisfaction scores that showed the RX-8 was Mazda's highest-scoring model.
"Those people love their cars," says DeVaux. "The few dealers who sort of put this on the table may have been overreacting."

The largest Mazda dealer in the DFW area has proven to be totally incompetent at RX8 service. It's not just the techs either. They did a good job at executing the sale, and I got a great price. After that things went downhill quickly. They just sent me a coupon for $7.95 off my 5000 mile service. Basicaly an oil change and a fluid inspection priced a measly $64.95. Maybe thats a bargain after the last time they changed my oil - with synthetic and 3 quarts too much. Oh yeah, they told me "Mazda is wrong about synthetic". Could be. But in 40,000 miles if the motor needs to be rebuilt due to synthetic (it won't be) guess who the dealer would bill - Mazda.

I appreciate the compliment, but the thanks really should go to Zoom44, StealthTL, Omicron and the other Mods who work really hard behind the scenes and don't get paid at all. This board is truely a group effort.

I'm disturbed that Mazda's main response to the issue seems to be to use more secure methods of communication with their dealers. What about the real problem?
Oh well, I'm not surprised - just disturbed.

Oh man! They mentioned J.D. Power and Associates gave us surveys! I got mine today. They gave me 5 bucks for doing it.
I think it's hilarious that when it came to dealer surveys...the car got poor ratings.
But when it comes to J.D., everyone LOVES the car!
BOT: I'm glad that autoweek ran this. Maybe more RX-8 owners will try to find the video now! Too bad they didn't mention us being mulligans in the article. That would have been hilarious.
