SPEED mag Greddy RX8 test
anyone see this yet?
It seems after about $27k in mods (body, interior,Tein susp, greddy brakes, greddy turbo) the car was no/hardly faster then a stock RX8, had severly worse braking, and about the same handling... or so the tests found.
very interesting

Because he put 5000+ into his body kit
5000+ into his wheels and tire and suspension
5000+ into his interior
then some more for other things such as turbo

HEAVY **** RX8!! that's how.
3400+ lbs !! due to all the stereo stuff in the trunk plus other "show" stuff.
I've got the greddy kit and ran a 14.0sec with a boost leak!
I got other performance items... upgraded clutch, RB flywheel, hiflow cat, 17's w/ falken rt615s, short throw shifter, and....
mine weighs 2980lbs!!
Thats 400+ lbs less. (their 8 is comparable to having 2 big people in their car).

thats sharwf1's car. It's a show car not a raced out version. That audi and mustang was everything but pretty, where as the greddy 8 was built for show. Build a turbo 8 with a base 8, have it tuned with lighter wheels, and lighter body components, it would do wayyy better.

That car would have been better in a stereo system or show oriented magazine. By placing it in a performance mag that tested it vs lcars that had twice the power, it just made the RX-8 look bad. He may have enjoyed the publicity by having his car in a magazine but it definitely shouldn't have been in this one. I've had stereo cars in magazines before. It's no big deal.

Well its not that bad. See they got a 350Z stock and did test then they gut one did the same test. All they found was better braking and better excel and not much of a diff on the drag times.

I have a base RX8. I plan on adding a turbo this winter when the car is in the garage. I like greddy. I just wish they could get more power out of the kit. Its hard to compare this kit with some of the kits out there for other cars like the mustang and the 350Z. If you spend 10k on each, the 8 is the slowest for now. The thread with the racer that had the aftermarket ECU and the supercharger gives me hope.

Well, at least SPEED magazine likes to feature the RX-8. Three out of the four issues to date have had articles on the 8 (JDM MS 8, "Underground" prototype USDM MS 8, and now Greddy 8). And two out of the four issues have had the 8 on the cover.

SPEED does like the 8 as their editor, Mitani, wrote a huge article about the 8 right before it came here. In it he stated to the effect of that in his opinion the 8 was the most beautiful car to ever come out of Japan. For him, it was apparently love at first sight. Can't fault him for that.

Disappointing performance...maybe Mazda will make a retro-fit kit available when the Mazdaspeed 8 debuts(2006?). Anyway, SPEED article says you lose the traction control and the ABS with the Greddy kit, not for me...the Mazdaspeed will be engineered better-more power to the wheels with the HP increase...AND maybe still keep the warranty...better to wait and see...
