Not to to be one of those, "My brother in law's, uncle's, 2nd cousin said....." But, I just thought this was interesting news I heard (I cannot say where I heard it because I do not want him to get into trouble); there will be a 'new RX-7'; the RX-8 is being discontinued, the 7 will be a true two seater sports car- 2800 pounds, and there are talks there may be a turbo for an MS version costing about $45k. and a N/A version coming in from $34-37k. Internally, it is being referred to as the Rotary 7. The biggest news was that the target year for release is 2009-2010 versus 2010-2011. This is to combat all the other players in the market that will be dropping sports cars.

WOW is that awful looking, the back is terrible and the front isn't much better. I'd rather they actually put the effort into making some of the Mazdaspeed parts actually worth some hp.

16x only 300hp? I thought the mazdaspeed version of the renesis sold in japan was 262hp? Not a lot of jump considering the increase in displacement. I would have expected around 320.

 

you thought wrong about the mazdaspeed in japan. it was no better in its top HP figure than any other rx-8

 

only 300 hp? i dont know what your thinking, but that is pretty damn good, you show me a different 1.6L engine that gets 300 hp stock.

 

And don't forget this new car should be lighter...in theory.

 

The DOHC 2.0l inline-4 in my winter 03 zx2 Escort struggles to put out these numbers...
Power: 97 kW , 130 HP SAE @ 5,750 rpm; 127 ft lb , 172 Nm @ 4,250 rpm

And let me tell you, if I rev to 6k it sounds like it's going to blow up.

Edit: Granted, it's not a "performance" engine. Still, with an extra .4l displacement it doesn't even come close to rwhp of a 1.3l Renesis.

 

Back on topic....where's the damn refreshed RX-8 already???

 

How is that "on topic" for a Taiki Concept thread?

The only news I've heard anywhere about "refreshing" the RX8 says not to expect it until 2010, if at all.
