the car was amazing fast, it was a full second faster than the pontiacs and a little more over the porche they really got a great set up gor this race
In GT class competition, the No. 70 SpeedSource Mazda RX-8 of Nick Ham and Sylvain Tremblay won from the pole, pulling a 9.514 second gap over the No. 07 Banner Racing Pontiac GXP.R of Kelly Collins and Paul Edwards at the finish. Ham and Tremblay combined to lead 45 laps of the 70 lap battle.
Collins and Edwards used the second place finish to take over the GT championship lead (255-253) after entering the night's race in a three-way tie with Dirk Werner, who finished third with co-driver Bryce Miller in the No. 87 Farnbacher Loles Motorsports Porsche GT3 Cup.
Tremblay and Ham used the win to pull within seven and 16 points of the Banner Racing duo, respectively.
"It was a good day's work," said Ham, who qualified the car on the pole and started the race before passing the car off to Tremblay on lap 42. "We had confidence coming here; we had the team, the car, the driving, it was meant to be. Everybody did their job today and when you do that, you win races."
"We had a great beginning of the season, and then had a few unfortunate events that put us back but the team put on a tremendous performance and I think our season is back on track," said Tremblay, happy to be within reach of the championship again. "We have a great car, a great team, and we have everything we need to get to the finish line first at the end of the race. It was great racing with Paul (Edwards). The traffic was difficult but the team told me to just keep doing the numbers and he made a little mistake which gave us a good gap and we were able to take the finish."
The Rolex Series reconvenes July 13 and 14 at Iowa Speedway for split-class action, and then heads on to Barber Motorsports Park July 20 through the 22.

It was a great race. Couldn't believe they went to commercial as Tremblay was putting the pass on the Pontiac. Good to see these guys come back after the last couple of races.

It was fun to watch. Too bad they went to a commercial just as the rooftop cam was catching #70's pass on the GXP. They did go back to the replay later, but that isn't quite the same.

Great race at Daytona! Always good to see the 8 take home a win. Some great dueling with the GXP.R really made this a well-earned victory.
Anyone catch that ALMS race at Lime Rock? Cars were flying off of that track like it was covered in black ice. Both Audi R10's crashed, and a pile-up of Ferraris led to an underdog victory by the Flying Lizard Porsche, which took damage at the start. Very exciting race.

I saw the 01 car spin out and was just walking along the track and just caught the Ferrari flew into the tires. It was a good race.
Now back to Rolex GT...
