Is this Wikipedia spiel on Rx8 accurate?
Is the information on the recall factually correct on Wikipedia?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rx8
"....In August 2006, Mazda announced that a problem with oil metering had led to the engines in many RX-8s having to be replaced. Mazda voluntarily recalled all 2004 and 2005, as well as some 2006 models. All engines that failed a vacuum test would be replaced...."
If not, one of you guys might want to set it straight. If it's not accurate, it will hurt resales/depreciation rate.

As far as I have heard, the new flash will do a couple of things. One, more oil at low rpms. Two, less fuel at start. The oil problem has been documented pretty well on this forum. It seems to be more of a problem in high temp, low humidity areas of the country. Evidently not enough oil has been injected leading to poor compression and premature failure of the seals. Look for the premix threads.

I would replace 'problem' with 'miscalculation', and 'many' with 'a few'. I would also then go into more detail about how and why it happened, where it was most likely to happen, and which types of RX-8s were most effected.
Since it's a Wiki, I guess I could have just changed it myself, but typing in a url is such a hassle..

I don't mean to start up the old horsepower argument again, but on the wiki page, I don't remember the following:
Didn't the statement specifically indicate the actual horsepower was dropped to 238 hp and 197 hp back then? If my memory serves me right, they never stated anything vague like "up to 5% less."
Another thing I noticed on the page was that someone listed the UK 6 speed manual at 170 kW, which converts to nearly 228 hp.
By the way...that horsepower statement was not in late 2003. It was 1 month after the car came out. I'm too tired to edit it.
In late 2003 Mazda issued a press release stating that the actual horsepower of the RX-8 was up to 5% less than previously advertised. Mazda offered to buy back any of the affected vehicles sold in the United States. Those who chose to keep the cars were given other incentives such as free maintenance, parts, and accessories.

Not sure how good Wiki is on RX-8s. For medical items Wiki may not give a full picture, lack details, and data may be missing or incomplete. For example, it may list stingrays with toxic spines, but not name the toxins, or give structual details which would be needed for antidote design. On folklore, it may be misleading, or provide alternative sources or information, for example the Kolob definition, that I followed up on in another thread - this ignored some Arabic, Zoroastrian, and even more ancient sources, but it had some really fun recent sources.
Wiki is only as good the the information being entered - handle with caution, and check out original data for more solid references. And yes, Wiki information, even if true, could damage re-sale value of the cars.
