(Winding Road) Throw Down: Mazda RX-8 R3 Stands All
Winding Road magazine has a new July 7 spotlight titled "Throw Down: Mazda RX-8 R3 Stands All" which pits the car against the Cooper S, 370Z, 335d, Boxter S, and an Audi R8 I saw this today at work on my ipad and this article didn't need a subscription. I loved reading the comparison with the R8 and especially this bit "If the Audi is well worth $114K, then I'd say the RX-8 should go for $85K. Not bad: an $85K car for $32K."
I'd love to link to the page for everyone to see, but it seems like it's not up on Winding Road's website.
Through some ingenuity, I got image captures off the ipad for everyone

Neat article. It's nice to hear someone actually defend the 8 for once...though I have a hard time believing that the RX-8 has better steering and shifter than the Boxster.

Yea i want to keep mine for a looong time as well (only thing id trade my 8 for is a S2 rather than my 1), i just really need to get a commuter car as well so im not forced to drive the 8 so much.

If he said Cayman S... then yea, i would have a hard time believing that. That is the only car i would trade my 8 for.

Momentum Keeps Me Going
I think poor Tom has a touch of rotary fever, not that there's anything wrong with that. But "...declared he could justify the Mazda's abilities versus any
sporting car on sale today"? 1st, that's a fairly broad statement, and what is "justify"?. The RX-8 is what it is, some of it's abilities are excellent, comparable
to some of the best. What do you want the car for... DD, track monster, date car, status symbol?".
"Compare and contrast" would be a valid story, far better than justify.
There are no perfect cars, a few get close, RX-8 perhaps, R8, Cayman S, Boxster S, maybe a Ferrari or two...everyone should be happy we have so many
great choices, depending that is...

I wonder why they pulled the story?

in reference to the boxter comparison...does the r3 (or any "2nd gen" rx-8) have a lower redline?? i'm pretty sure they do NOT, but it says you have 2000 revs past the porsche's 6400. that's 8400...i guess technically the redline starts at 8500, but everyone knows you can go to 9. i guess it doesn't really matter, but that just caught my eye...
