Don't worry about it. All the mags were predicting a $30k base price on the 350Z and it came out at $26,500 for the base model. Mazda knows they have to compete with the Z on pricing.

If it winds up being more than 31k loaded, I can't afford it and I'll have to wait.

Hey Grimace-
Thanks for the info on the World of Wheels article. I live in the states, but one must only look at a conversion rate to see how much the US RX-8 will cost.
You said that at that price you are screwed- that may be the case, i dunno I'm not your banker, but I do know something else, at that price, Mazda is screwed. They need this thing to be competitive, with price maybe being less than competitors. Rotaries have a cult following, in order for this car and the future RX-7 to make it, they need some converts.
Also, on an unrelated topic, how disgusting is it that Mazda, who's campaign slogan is "zoom-zoom" is offering a base car with only an automatic!!! No stick, so what, in order to get zoom-zoom u gotta pay?
Just wanted to thank ya and tell ya that there are others out there like you waiting for pricing with baited breath.

Grimace, I also have that mag. Did you notice the editorial on the last page dedicated to the RENESIS ?
Has anyone seen this one-page article on the board? Because if not, I can easily scan and upload it.

I think this car would be sucessful even in the mid 40s CDN, since its rear hinged doors allow it to be used as a daily driver. Also theres no way your going to get this car if your going for MSRP right away, simply too little supply for dealers to justify selling it that low. Also it does make sense that there pricing that high (at the moment) due to the fact no other vehicle shares the tooling it uses for motors, chasis, etc. There is no other model to share the outlay needed for equipment to make this car.
