Correct me if I'm wrong but 1 hp = .7457 kW. This translates to 362 hp. Not bad...

oh allan horsley to teh rescue!! all those highly paid engineers at Mazda Japan are incompetent buffons compared to this true Visionary
luckily he has those wizkids hidden away downunder!/sarcasm
yes the article is here in several forms. yes its still the same advertising gimick from horsley . yes its still copied fromt he Rotormaster setup.
Mazda, Japan that is, says it cannot be done. Mounting a turbo on the RX-8's rotary powerplant is all too much trouble; something to do with the clearance between the exhaust and the front suspension.

The Black 8 Turbo is well over 8 months old, was initially told in WHEELS mag with pics about then, it has just done the newspaper media around the country here.
I don't have the mag here, but, I recall Horsley saying there was little to nothing they found that improved the suspension package from original...apart from a slight lowering, other sway bars, (even Mazdaspeed) were seen to offer little to nothing when comparing to OEM.
Horsley has been with Mazda Australia for over 20 years, and is highly regarded in the industry, he was the Team Manager/Developer for the Peter Stuyvesant Racing RX-7 (SA22C Series1), which dominated the Australian Touring Car Championship, particularly when CAMS (Our Confederation of Australian Motor Sport) allowed a 13B Injected engine to be used, the V8 guys hated it!...
Horsley also masterminded the 4 in a row(years) RX-7 (FD Turbo) wins at the Bathurst 12 Hour non stop events over Porches.
And all the SP Retail development..
RX-7 SP
MX-5 SP Turbo (A year before the Hiroshima unit)
Mazda 2 SP Rally Concept
RX-8 Turbo
And many other tasks for MMC.
He is a very talented guy with a wealth of knowledge.

In the real year of 2007 your MY 2008...yes
There will have to be fairly substantial change to the car to maintain any reasonable sales volume.
FI?, not sure about that.
BUT THEN, and I don't have any evidence, and I hate to say this, and its a 'gut' feeling based on experience, but I think Mazda have gone very cold on doing anything much more to the 8 in the engine department...period.
Sales down 40% in the US and OZ in one year!, UK does OK, China will be the key to the 8s continuing success, WHY, IMO the price of gas/petrol/fuel, it is very similar to the early 1970s, if the price of oil hits $70 US plus, and its not that far away, say good bye to the production of ANY car that uses lots of juice.
For the sake of our beloved Rotary...I really hope I am wrong...

Those are nice numbers and they said it's daily drivable.

"It's not an SP, it's an Extreme — and that's for a reason," Horsley says. "SP is for cars we are going to make and sell. It took a fair while to do and there were a couple of things that were a little complex but the end result could have rolled off a production line."
I like the sound of that last part.
