I think if you buy the DVD you will be impressed. I'll give you a hint...no we did not get schooled by the Civic and the only car thet gave us a run for our money was an XS Engineering built Skyline.

Vivid wasn't even supposed to have been in the finals, an E36 M3 should have been in the finals NOT Vivid. Vivid didn't even win their class and they sure as hell didn't come close to keeping up with many of the AWD cars out there and were slower than other RWD FI cars that weren't included in the finals, they were put in because of the way the car looked. I'm sure it drove and handled well, but it didn't make it to the finals because of how it performed.
The whole event sounds like a joke. They allowed cars with R compound tires to compete after it was made clear before the event that only street tires were allowed. Cars were bumped out of the event because of the way they looked rather than the way they drove or how fast their time was.
They do this event to sell DVDs, not to show you the best car or the fastest cars.
If you want to hear some of the inside dirt read from post #21 on to get an idea of what the event is really all about.

Only thing I saw in SKIMMING that thread were random complaints about the M3 not making it but nothing much substantial...the comments about Vivid's RX-8 from posters that were there were positive. If the RX-8 held its own with the group of four, then it made a good showing. And of course this venture was for money and profit. Did anyone think they were filming out of the goodness of their heart? How about just leaving it at how the RX-8 performed, good or bad, and leaving it at that. So the RX-8 was picked over the Evo's and BMW, it's not the end of world. Not everyone was guaranteed a spot.
(just realized I'm really sticking up for Vivid in this thread, I may need a discount.)

from the various forums i visit...
it seems like many contestants and their small ***** syndromes could not deal with the fact the Touge was run exactly how it is run in Japan - where the street car that delivers the best combination of driveability, speed, and fun takes the victory instead the absolute fastest around the track. Apparently, some people can not deal with that....
That is why in Japan they typically do not have to deal with people covering up for their short commings with illegal tires, flat out race cars, lack of respect, ect....

after rading the evolution.net posts..seems liek the whoel event was a lill messed up. oh well mayeb they'll get it right next time. this post (#45) seems to sum it up nicly.
"would like to say that the event was not organized well. I think that they have overinvited people and with 40+ cars that were there it was impossible to do it right and fair.
Our car performed well. Being our first Togue event and TimeAttack nature of our car, we are not upset about not being selected. Congrats to those who advanced and won.
Out of all the EVO's. (8 or 9 I think), only half did not break (BOZZ, A-Spec, APR, XP and white "Robbi Spec" EVO) and actually got back to the pits using their own powers and not gravity (lol, gotta love the hills) and/or were given a "second chance". After all, this is a Togue event, so if you break, you loose. That is my take on it. After all, more than "fixing the problem" can be done during that time. Tire pressures, shock absorber settings, sway bar settings and more can be done while those who did not break did not have a chance to do. That is not to say that those who were given that chance actually did that. But in all fairness, it should be the same for everyone. You snooze you loose. Or at least, use the points system fairly and penalize "broken" cars.
Also, the whole AWD class was rushed through. Due to limited time, they had one driver drive one car. With the first 3 classes they had each driver drive one class. With AWD cars, they both drive half of the AWD cars. So the driving impression point system did not work at all with the AWD class.
So in the end, 4 cars were picked based on the "crippled" system they used. NSX in Turbo RWD, M3 in NA RWD, Top Setup EG Civic in FWD and XS R34 in AWD class. Based on the feedback from people they "banned" slick tires and R34 was disqualified. Vishnu EVO, that came in second in AWD class got the 4th spot. Then, for some reason, they swapped the M3 with Vivid's turbo RX8. And later on, "unbanned" slicks and kicked Visnhu out of the finals.
How did a turbo RWD RX8 got picked instead of M3 I am not sure. IIRC, M3 had "banned" tires so, why did not they pick second best NA RWD? Go figure.
Also, prior to the event, BOZZ was specifically asked to "do something about or graphics". As you may know, our EVO is a CUSCO sponsored car. So it looks like any other CUSCO EVO/WRX in Japan. They said it was too JDM and they wanted the American Togue to be more, ahem, American. So off went the "JDM" graphics in went the "JDM" Skyline. I mean, you cannot be more JDM than a R34. That car was not even entered. Another XS AWD car was entered but swapped for R34 last minute due to mechanical problems prior coming to the event. Once again, you break, you loose.
So, all in all, it was an ok event. We were happy to see all the cars, friends and competitors. I think that this type of the event is in its infant stages and the organizers play it as they go. I feel that the rules should be clearly stated BEFORE the event and followed through.
I think thirt installement of this event will be better. I bet they will narrow down the competition to no more than 20 total cars. We'll see. BOZZ for sure will be there next time.
Vishnu EVO looked mighty smooth on the track on its second attempt. So did the underpowered NA Subaru of Gravel Crew. Top Setup EG looked like it was on rails and so did the red MR2 with a ginormous wing.
In the mean time, thank you all for coming and grats to the chosen ones.
