One more question if I may -- have you found the foot parking brake on the Merc to be a nuisance? It's the main reason my wife bought a Passat (vs. a C240) three years back -- she really disliked the foot brake, whereas I did not mind too much.
Other than that, you have answered pretty much all the questions I had. Your insurance premium confirms my suspicion that the quote I got is a mistake (my broker was out today, and his colleague told me to double-check with the former before I sign any papers).

The brake peddle bothered me a little at first, but once you get used to it, it really does not bother me anymore. In some repect it gives you a little better room between the two seats. Again if you drive the car daily it would not be an issue. In most cases I do not really use it, unless I am on an incline. I usually leave the car in gear instead.
