Yeah - I'm not so sure about the double stripe thing...

Concerning the racecar thing - This will be an autocross car as well as a daily driver. That being the case, I think the stripe is appropriate.

It's just enough to make it stand out on the track -- but not so much that it looks silly on the road. But that's just my opinion.

Thanks for the feedback.

It's always different looking in person - usually better than the picture. Oh well.

Maybe with a different front bumper (MazdaSpeed) and black wheels it'll look more fitting. Time will tell.

The good thing about it is that if I change my mind, I can always just peel it off.

I quite like it. I've thought of actually using a sealed layer of carbon fiber to the same effect.

I like it too. Might even try it myself. It's a simple statement...

That would look good IMHO - if you like CF hoods, I think it would be a nice alternative.

I really like it, actually. I think it distinguishes the car from all the other 8's (we have plenty of em here in NoVA) without looking stupid.

If you want to try and make your 8 look like that lotus, why not photoshop your appearance lip (front) black and your oem wing. Then maybe your side aeros to see what it would look like. Photoshop some gunmetal or black rims on and see what it looks like.

I would agree with most, that the stripe idea may be overduing it.

The white one MP5 posted gives you an idea of what a stripe may look like.

Yeah - there ya go. I like that CF inset piece. That would look pretty good on a just about any color in my opinion.

Ok - Now with the wheels done. I think you can see it starting to come together..

I called a local powder coater and he said that the wheels could be done like that, but had to be done by hand and would cost about 100 per wheel. You could keep the lip in the stock color, or have them powder coated a color closer to polished metal for about the same price.

Here's my febal attempt at making your look like the Lotus you posted earlier.

might look a bit more like it "belongs" if I had black wheels and some black eyelids. A little more black in a few other places to tie it all together - I think so anyway.
I agree with this. You need some more black accents to pull the look together. I'd get the black rims next.

You could paint your calipers black too.

Spray paint. Did it myself. Just masked off the parts I wanted and hit it with a can of "professional grade high perfpormance enamel."

Time will tell just how "high performance" it really is.

My preference would have been to get them powdercoated. But since I'd rather put the money into performance parts - I cheaped out on the wheels so I can buy adjustable shocks or something else.

That looks pretty decent.. Thanks kwescott!

I think you guys are right.. I need more black in different places to make it come together.. Maybe the front lip and the spoiler... possibly the aero flares..

But I don't want to over do it.. But I do need more black to balance it out.

Thanks everyone!

Mighty Red,
I think going down the path of making the RX-8 look like a lotus, makes us really no better than these guys... https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-multimedia-photo-gallery-6/my-god-why-84621/

They're trying to make their Civic look like an RX-8
We're trying to make your RX-8 look like a Lotus.
See the connection?

I like that front end on the civic. I think it looks nice. But then again, I posted that already on that thread. I find nothing wrong with taking parts, or ideas from other cars. Afterall, you need something to start with. I think Mighty Red is going the right direction for his project. I'm anxious to see how things turn out.

As long as he's trying to make his 8 look like something "better," I think he's fine. Now, if someone was trying to make their 8 look like a Civic, I'd look differently at it.

well here are a couple of photos of my 8, i think this is the look you are going for...black hood decal w/ black wheels. also i have the side markers blacked out as you can see in one of the photos, but the flash makes them look stock amber in the other two.

Thanks for your concerns... but put your worries aside. I'm in no way trying to make my RX8 look like a Lotus. I was simply using the Lotus as an example of how a red and black color scheme looks when completed.

Though I may use the Lotus to get ideas for my color scheme... that is all it will be and nothing more. The RX8 will still be a pure RX8 - only with a few little "enhancements" to make it unique and personalized and to set it apart from the other 8's on the road... all while trying not to look "goofy."

I'm trying to walk the thin line of making it unique and "stand out" while keeping it relatively low-key and in good taste. I don't want ricey nor do I want gaudy. I think that everyting I've done so far is in keeping with concept.

I know not everyone will like the scheme.. but I hope that most people will at least think it's not.. horrid (when I'm done). That seems to be the reaction I'm getting thus far. That's a good start. (Thanks everyone).

Besides, who knows... it may just grow on ya. Maybe the next time you (BigOLundh or any others in the area) come out to the next get-together at BJ's in Addison you can see it in person and maybe change your mind.
