Rims are a little too 'bling bling' for me.. don't like the spoiler either :\
I think I like the more simple and elegant regular RX-8 instead of the Mazdaspeed one.
The Mazdaspeed one is VERY sporty but I prefer something with a touch of class in it, like the RX-8 has.
The thing is, you can always do those appearance mods and body kits after you buy the car... but you start to alienate buyers a lot after you decide to release the car like a ricemobile.
That's no offense to people who like it... more power to em! But I think if Mazda wants to be smart, they'll keep the car simple with *minor* exterior additions (think 3 series and M3) on the Mazdaspeed version.
You can always add the other exterior stuff if you want to later on.. for me though, if they sold the car like that I would not buy it. However people that LIKE the way the Mazdaspeed looks would buy the RX-8 without all the 'pizzazz', and then continue to do the exterior mods themselves.

it just seems wasteful to me to have 2 tips for the sake of aesthetics

Cool stuffs, man... I'm kinda "excited" when I saw the movie critics commending on the RX8 driven by Cyclop in Xmen 2.
C-West are well known for it's carbon-fiber GT-wing too......Might consider "implanting" to your design........
