Volk GT-N, I'll try to take some day pics when I have a day off here. The weather in Socal has been pretty bad this past week. Gosh guys I feel so torn inside, to buy clear corners or not to buy? that is the question im pondering as of now.

kwescott 03-15-2006 10:47 AM

I bought clear corners, had them on for about a month, and then sold them. I had clears on my other vehicles, because it was something everyone was doing...not because I liked them. I guess I've grown up a little since then. I don't like them because they look cheap. I think it is personal preference...afterall, people hate my dash kit because it looks cheap to them....:)

When I first saw the RX8 press shots, it was a black RX8 from Europe or Asia, so of course it had clear corners. I fell in love with the look of that car... so when I saw the the 8 in person at the dealer the US mandated orange lenses looked really out of place to me... especially on the black. I bought some clears from eBay the day I brought my 8 home :). I think the OEM ones look better on the red and yellow cars though.

I wanted to get rid of all the orange on the car. Especially on black, it didn't look right. Replace my turn signal bulbs to stealth and sidemarkers to clear corners.

I agree ont he Red and the Yellow. Orange looks good. It even looks good on the green, but I say the clears definitely look better on the black. Again its all about your personal opinion.

Question about wheels though...

I haven't seen any black "8"s sporting sick chrome wheels and it makes me wonder why? I really like the look of the black deep dish wheels with the polished lip but there are soooo many out there like that.

I wanna be different yet have it still look SWEET!

COMMENTS ANYONE???

Basically my ride is stock so far, attached are some pics. The first one is after I just buffed it with Meguiars Tech Wax and a 10" Random Orbital. Other two are at York Beach in Maine a couple weeks ago on the EAST COAST RX8 Coastal run. THere were 20 8's that day.

What kind of wheel style do you like....5-spoke, mesh. What wheels have you seen that you like? I'm sure if you post some pics of wheels you do like, people will give their opinions and make suggestions on similar wheels to the ones you post.

You are right about the current fad of dark wheels. On plus, for me at least, is that I don't have to worry about water spots as bad as when I had polished billet wheels on my S10.

FABRO 03-15-2006 02:19 PM

The majority of owners don't go w/ chrome because most are tuners and don't want the bling bling look. Also at a performance stand point they are really heavy, and cost much more money as opposed to alloy wheels. Nice pics 9kRPM, the clear corners are looking mighty sexy on your car.

FABRO 03-15-2006 02:23 PM

Your dash is looking hot kwescott! I don't care what they say... :icon_tup: Also nice choice of rims.

kwescott 03-15-2006 02:27 PM

Definatley makes it stand out from the crowd, sometimes a good reaction, sometimes bad...but I'm the one who gets to look at it everyday. I figure, we do so many mods to the outside of our car that we don't get to enjoy while we're driving. This is definately something I get to enjoy everyday. 2 other 8 owners in our San Bernardino group have done the same thing to theirs. One is a white 8 with silver/grey carbon fiber, and the other is yellow with a yellow dash kit.

DRKSYDE 03-15-2006 02:29 PM

Thanks guys,

I figured that it was because of the bling bling look, but I just don't want to be like everyone else. (Even though the Black looks great!) I also agree with the weight comment.

Not worried about price as much, and the polishing is not a big deal.

I'm torn!

What products did you use for your dash kit?

I originally found a site called trimsrus.com..and then went through the actual company that makes the kit. nycdashes.com (I think). If you do a search for my thread, I have the link there. "Red dash kit installed"..or something like that. I also put a thread up of the white with silver carbon fiber. Never put up pics of the yellow kit, as I began to get frustrated with the rediculous negative comments from a few notorious member who couldn't keep their opinions to themselves.

kwescott 03-15-2006 02:53 PM

regarding your rim choices....I quickly realized that a lot fo the rims I actually liked, didn't come in big enough sizes for our car. Most rims you'll find will go as large as 18's and 19's, but their widths (i.e. 18x7) are smaller than our stock wheels.

I too, was looking at that last rim you posted, and was even contemplating the same wheel with red insets (instead of black) to go with my interior. Thought against it...and the fact that i couldn't get a wide enough rim helped me in that decision. :)

DRKSYDE 03-15-2006 02:57 PM

It says that it comes in 18x7.5. Isn't that the size of our rims?

Forgive me for being nieve. Only had this thing 3 weeks.

kwescott 03-15-2006 02:59 PM

18x8. I believe the biggest tire you could put on a 7.5 width rim is like a 215...smaller than our stock tire.

Very nice Taka! And I agree with G8rboy, black is hotter in motion.

takahashi 03-21-2006 08:10 PM

UFGator12 03-21-2006 08:54 PM

Ahhhhhhh! I just noticed... where did you get those black wheel centers? I want some just like that! The black with the chrome Mazda symbol on them.
