Hey, that was quite a story you shared above!! Glad to hear you were ok, and that at the end you found a car that you really like. I had a similar experience, once I saw a 40th AE for the first time I knew that was my car!!
BTW, if you have never had any experience modifying cars, a this point I'm sure you know what are you getting into when purchasing an FD

yeah, i think thats part of the fun of it for me. Personally i get really happy when i think about all the different custom ductwork i will be doing and fabricating different things(i love custom work with a passion, call me cheap but why pay when you can do it yourself). I have no problem doing things to my car, the only barrier in the way is knowledge, or the lack of it. Ive been window shopping for the fd for years now and after i saw my first fd in person i knew i had to have one. Its really not a question of IF ill have an fd, more of WHEN and HOW MUCH money i will pour into it.
I think a main flaw some fd owners have is that they are rushed into completing projects. My fd will sit in my garage and contrary to my rx8, the best and most expensive parts will adorn the car. Some purchase the fd thinking they can daily the car which i find hilarious, sure you can do it but have fun paying 5k for a new motor every 60k miles.
Im no where ready for fd ownership and it scares me a little but i cant wait for the experience.

40th anniversary Edition
Hey EricB , a good book to pick up is Street Rotary by Mark Warner. It has loads of info on maximizing horsepower, reliability and all about modifications on rotary engines on all RX models, including the FD and RX8
check on amazon.com for it. I tried pasting in the link here ,but it would not work.
Cheers

In regards to the FD, as long as you have space and tools, I'm sure you can tackle pretty much everything....with the exception of the tuning. That's something that certainly belongs to the few pros out there who can properly tune a turbo charged rotary.

Write the letter anyway. Corporations like receiving positive letters from customers. Even if you think nobody will read it, somebody will.

just curious, do all of you guys have white caps on your shift *****?
My 09 had a black face and my friends all have a black face.
im talking about the background the numbers are on.
I bought mine with a white fact, and the metal was allllll scratched up, most likely due to someone who was married and their ring scratched the ****.

I noticed quite a few of you have spoilers, I just bought my 2008 40th anniversary in October used and was curious if the spoiler was an option or an included part in the States versus Canada? I'm happy with the non-spoiler look but just wondering.

I'm confused about your description of somebody scratching the metal on the ship **** with a wedding ring. Most people wear wedding rings on the left hand
But mine has some scratches as well. I'm not sure that thing is actual metal though.

40th anniversary Edition
I bought my 40th Anniversary edition in 2008 and it came with the spoiler and side skirts, with rear mud guards and a factory rear wing . My dealer only had the one 40th anniversary edition and it came with those options. It was love at first sight. The car looks great with or without the front spoiler, but of course I like it best with it since I have that. Either way I think the 40th anniversary edition is the best looking of all the RX8s. Unique combination of body color, anniversary emblems, unique red interior and great looking wheels. I just added the front matched-color mud guards to complete the look. They are not expensive and easy to install yourself.

you should see mine, they have pitting on them. the original clear coat wasnt thick enough and now i have black spots all over them.
oh yeah and the previous owner drove through tar or something cuz there is some black **** on one of the rims
oh yeah and the previous owner curbed them alittle
disastrous. Im thinking about taking them off and plasti-dipping them to see what it would look like.

I've gotten used to the wheels now, and have also decided not to spend the $$ to fix them - at least for now. As I mentioned before, I think I would rather put that money toward new wheels (whenever the time comes when I get aftermarket wheels).
Also, I'm about to get new tires for my truck and that's gonna be a **** load of $$. So I can't spend $$ on the 8 for a while
Too many toys to maintain
Personally, I wouldn't do plasti-dipping on the wheels. I would rather take them to a wheel shop to have them fixed and repainted. It's amazing what these places can do to wheels. You could also paint them yourself after the shop fixes the curb rash. That could save you $$, but you better have enough time and patience!! I've painted wheels in the past (my cars, friends' cars) and with the right prep work you can achieve great results. It's just time consuming: unmounting the tires from the wheels, prep work, sanding, cleaning, couple coats of primer, couple coats of paint, several coats of clear coating to seal everything good, mounting the tires back in the wheels, etc.
Somebody not too long ago posted pics of how he painted his R3 wheels flat black. Not sure why he did that since the factory color on those wheels is amazing. Point is that the guy did it himself and the results were great. He definitely saved money that way. But I really liked the idea since the our wheels are similar to the R3 wheels. I think our wheels would look awesome in black, nice contrast with the metropolitan gray mica.

updatessss, although minimal... sorry.
jdm clear corners! snagged up 10minutes after somebody posted them for sale on the forum, SNIPED!
$35 for clear corners with stealth bulbs, the right side stealth bulb went bad just as i went around the block so i swapped the oem whites back in.
also, since adding my eyelids, i cant stop taking pictures from the front...
oh and im not sure if i added a picture of my helmet yet...

I ordered sprint lowering springs guys. Its supposed to give a 2inch drop.
im not sure when my finals are but i will have to attempt it around the 9th of next month, doing the springs myself and as usual, everything takes me forever when doing mods. I cant afford to be stranded without a car when i have class.
ill keep us updated with pics.

Actually, I've been wanting to lower mine for a while, but ran out of funds lately since I had to do some suspension work in my truck in order to get it ready for this "4-wheeling" season. Basically ended up doing the opposite of the car; meaning, lifting the truck a few inches and installing bigger mud tires, LOL.
So that took a **** load of money out of my pockets. The 8 will have to wait It gets expensive when you have to keep up with two toys that constantly suck money out of you, haha.
Also, I see you decided to do the spring install yourself. As I said before, if it was me, I would just remove the factory coilovers and take them to a shop so they can install the new springs. That's fast, safe, and relatively inexpensive. I can do leaf spring work all day long, but I HATE dealing with coil springs. Those things are scary Also, without air tools, I just find it annoying dealing with those spring compressors with just hand tools. I guess I'm lazy
Anyway, again, make sure you get the best spring compressor you can find. Really, you do not want a coil spring flying around because of a stupid cheap spring compressor that breaks, snaps or bends half way through the install.
I remember helping my friend do his install a few years ago. he went and rented those cheapo spring compressors at the local auto zone and they bent like crazy. Had to go back to the store to get two additional sets
