As many said before, I believe there are many factors involved here.
The short list:
1. Number of silver cars produced, and shades of silver.
2. Amount of time vehicle is on the road.
3. Location, location, location.
4. Driver habits, and surrounding people.
5. Pure bad luck

I don't know. I traded it in 3 years ago.
It was keyed two days after that photo was taken though.
I'm trying to look for my hit-and-run pics from from my newer 8 last year. Very nice.

Mine has a little case of curse:
2 months after I got it, somebody CRAPPED ON THE HOOD in a parking lot overnight. (Psycho chick bad at make and model recognition of ex-bf's car, I think -- a couple days later my neighbor's silver Acura RL had 'LIAR' carved in the driver's door...)
A few months after that, some $h!tb@g bounced a shopping cart off the side of it at the grocery store -- $1200 worth of too lazy to walk a goddamn cart to the little corral. Here's the curse part of the story, though: While it was at the body shop, one of the techs tripped and dropped a spinning grinder on the ( previously undamaged) trunk. So mine has 1 1/2 coats of Sunlight Cursver on it...
I'm wondering what's going to show up on CarFax when I go to sell it later this year. (Do DMVs still consider anything over $500 to be a 'significant' accident in the vehicle history?)

Roger that. I was extremely unhappy with humanity for a little bit. What cheered me up was imagining the surprise in the conversation at the other house:
Psycho: "So what do you think of what happened to your car?"
Ex-BF: "Huh? There's nothing wrong with my car."
Psycho: "There... ISN'T?!?!?!"

Curse hmmmmmmm I don't know. I've seen all colors wrecked, mangled, etc. However, I am convinced that Mazda is paying people to drive , find our 8 and the wreck them like a bumper car at the county fair. Why you ask? because 90% of their techs can't service the dam things anymore. Mazda quality control Haha

The silver curse is pure myth.
The insurance companies have done studies and silver cars actually have about the lowest accident rate, of all makes and models.
In our local 8 club, we've lost 2 blacks this year, never a silver. Oh, and one red one was lost to a member's ex-wife in a divorce, so that's the same as totaled, as far as he is concerned, lol.
I've had my SS 2-1/2 years and I don't even have a door-ding. It's still pristine.

I seem to remember posting this a couple of years ago, but here it is again just in case I didn't. It's from a study done in New Zealand, but I recall that similar studies world-wide didn't differ too much from what is presented here:
http://www.wisegeek.com/is-there-a-l...-accidents.htm
From the article:
"The study involved accidents in New Zealand between 1998 and 1999. According to their findings, drivers of brown cars had the highest risk of sustaining serious injuries caused by auto accidents. Black and green cars also had elevated risks.
Which are the safest cars? Drivers of silver-colored cars, according to the report, have a 50% less chance of being involved in an injury-causing accident than do drivers of white cars! While the results are surprising, more studies need to be performed before we all rush out and repaint or replace our vehicles."
Good thing the RX-8 never came in brown.
