Thanks for the post. While rotary fans love the sound of the rotary, we have found that those outside this group find the sound a bit irritating, so we tuned the exhaust to mute the sound a bit. That and the fact that the Garrett turbo changes the note entirely. With the stock engine, we have to run two mufflers, but with the turbo, only one is required. In addition, I find that with the flat torque curve, I can shift at almost any rpm range and the acceleration is the same. I have yet to come up to a car that could come anywhere close to accelerating with us down the straight. I guess that's what 3.62lbs/hp will do for you!

We will be at Moroso Motorsports Park December 17th, running with Chin Motorsports. If ay of you are in the area, please stop by.

were you at the PBOC event at Barber Motorsports Park last month? I was there with the GA RX-8 Club, and I saw a car that looked just like this, had no idea what it was, or that it was a rotary, it did not sound like one, but there was a lot of noise in the race car groups.

Barber

That was our D962R Turbo. Unfortunately, I broke a suspension piece going over that nasty bump after the hairpin and went into the guardrail at about 130 mph. Chassis was fine, and car is back together now.

Those damned Porsches are just too loud! Kill them with the quiet turbo!

Very nice Chris! Seems like your turbo car is awesome on the track! Nice vid.

What do you think of the Renesis and the addition of the turbo has to do with the reliability with this engine? Can you get a full year tracking before a rebuild?

Are you running 8 or 10psi?

Any issues that you can see!

Turbo & Renesis

In our application, I have seen no issues at all running the turbo with the Renesis. We are using an EBoost controller in the cockpit that allows me to select from 3 preprogrammed boost levels while on the track. Typically, I run about 8psi of boost, but I will run the second selection of 10.5 psi of boost. There is really nothing to compete with us on the track speed-wise, so no sense in running a larger sledgehammer than required!

One note- we have reduced our redline to 8250 rpm, as with the torque shelf, and close gearbox ratios we use, it almost doesn't matter where you shift. That probably goes a long way to reduce bearing wear and increase reliability.

The Hewland FTR transaxle retails for around $12k or so.

D962R Turbo update

We made some changes to the turbo setup on our D962R. We installed a Tial 44mm external wastegate with a 8.6 psi spring, and replaced the stock plastic intake with a fabricated aluminum piece.

We went to the dyno this past Friday (1/12), and immediately saw 359 WHP at 8.6 psi of boost. The torque was 238 ft/lb, and everything was perfect. That translates, with the racing gearbox loss of about 15%, to 411 hp at the crank. We decided not to further increase the boost as we are nearing the torque limits of the gearbox, and need some longevity for upcoming races.

We will be racing this coming weekend at Sebring (1/19-21), and the following weekend at Moroso. I will post the results from the weekend along with some video on our web site.

Best regards,

Chris Diasio

Turbo

We are using a Garrett GT35R. The Air/Fuel ratio is fine, but we are using a Microtech unit which easily adjusts for that.

Diasio D962R Turbo update

I just wanted to update everyone on the Diasio D962R Turbo development progress. We have switched two of the secondary injectors to help keep up with fuel requirements at higher rpms- where the engine runs all the time on the track.

The first aftermarket injectors were given to us to try, but their availability and exact spray properties were relatively unknown. We were able to get 350+ whp at 8250 rpm in January.

However, when we went to purchase the injectors in bulk, they were not as available as first thought, so we sent a sample to Marren Injector on the East Coast for inspection. They came up with another injector to try, with a more direct spray pattern (the others sprayed at an angle).

Yesterday (4/3), we did a side-by-side test of the new injectors vs. the first aftermarket units. As expected, the original injectors put us at 355 hp at the wheels. After removing those and letting everything cool to the same temps, we replaced them with the new injectors and were able to get 374whp at 8250 rpm. That translates to 437+/- bhp, at 9 psi of boost. We figured that the injectors provided a better atomization of the fuel, cooling the charge temp, and providing better hp.

We will be back at the track with the car later this month racing.

Best regards,

Chris Diasio

Hey Chris, am I right in think that Cam helped you guys a lot in getting rotaries setup in your chassis? I seem to remember him saying something to me about that.

Oh, and give us more details about those injectors I'm right in the middle of setting up the fuel system on my FD with a GT35R - 374@9psi would be a pretty nice number.
