Escalade vs. RX8 in parking garage... guess who won.
So I was coming home from class this morning at about 10, and pulled slowly up the ramp into m parking garge as usual...
When I was just about to round the corner, BAM! A Black 07 Escalade dove straight down into me. The guy had cut the corner all the way into my lane, and due to the steep incline, his huge *** car, and my little rx8, he didnt see me untill after we collided. He was real cool about it, appologized a bunch, and Im now working out the insurance claims.
Heres the damage...
You can see he came down on top of my drivers side on the front... the hood will not open.
Although it is buckled up about 8 inches, making seeing out of the drivers seat very difficult.
The bumper is trash, the hood is trash, so is the drivers side headlight.
Ill have to have it opened up to see if there is further damage, Im sure there is.
This sucks, its a huge pain in the ***, and Ill have no car for my very short summer vacation next week. But on the plus side, guess whos getting a Carbon Fiber hood and fun new front bumper (Autoexe? MS? Airforce?)
Ill be sure to post pics of the car after everything is fixed and shes looking even better than before.

wow, that sucks. people around here cut blind corners like that all the time. i'm actually kind of surprised it doesn't happen more often. and sady, i bet the guy learned his leason about cutting turns, but he'll forget that leason by lunch.

Word of advice - snag your damaged headlight when the body shop takes it out to trash it. The electronics in there are worth something. Folks on this forum were interested in mine last Nov when I hit that deer, but by the time I called the body shop the parts were long gone.

Get the Mazdaspeed bumper. Sure everyone has it, but only because it looks amazing!

did it mess up the aero lip? if it did that will get you another $400+ to put toward the bumper you choose. insurance will give you a little over $400 for your stock one. also, if you buy your headlight used and you wind up needing a ballast assembly, let me know because i have one. but good luck with it all.

From Wikipedia:
Titanium is a chemical element in the periodic table that has the symbol Ti and atomic number 22. Titanium's properties are chemically and physically similar to zirconium. A metallic element, it is also well-known for its high strength-to-weight ratio. It is a light, strong metal with low density that, when pure, is quite ductile (especially in an oxygen-free environment), easy to work, lustrous, and metallic-white in colour. Because of its high tensile strength (even at high temperatures), light weight, extraordinary corrosion resistance, and ability to withstand extreme temperatures, titanium alloys are used in aircraft, armour plating, naval ships, spacecraft and missiles.
Silver is a soft white lustrous transition metal, it has the highest electrical and thermal conductivity of any metal and occurs in minerals and in free form. This metal is used in coins, jewelry, tableware, photography, and in mirrors.Silver is a very ductile and malleable (slightly harder than gold) univalent coinage metal with a brilliant white metallic luster that can take a high degree of polish.
Now if you were another car, which would you rather hit? The car whose color is used for coins and jewelry or the car whose color is used for armor plating and missiles?

at least you didn't already have the MS front.
Make sure you let your insurance company know about the non oem parts. The slight (mine was ~$30) bump in premiums is worth the extra coverage.
I had to replace my MS rear and part of my JIC Ti exhaust out of pocket.

There was a little damage to the other guys car, he cracked his washer fluid tank and had a nasty scar on the lower drivers side fo his bumper.
Im really hoping I get enough out of it for an aftermarket front end and a CF hood, if I can get it all said and done with that Ill be happy.
Speaking of front ends, Im looking at replica MS front ends, is it really worth the extra $900 for the real MS bumper if I can get a urethan rep. for $350?
Im really and truely, I believe, cursed. I bought the car in February, got my drivers side doors smashed in a parking lot 3 weeks after I got it, and now this. My car and parking lots just dont get along I guess.
Well wish me luck with everything!

Parking garages in general are cursed even more so with small cramp ones like that. I avoid them at all cost, see way to many instances of that where people cut the corners in big SUVs cause they can't make the turns any other way.
