How to do color change to silver....

I had a go at making a silver colour scheme... but I just can't get the silver to look right...

See what you think anyway, I went for RHD, silver with tan trim.

The RX-Evolve silver would be ideal IMHO.

This was done with "The Gimp"... not Photoshop, BTW http://www.gimp.org/ Sorry if anyone has done this colour already, but I still need clues how to do metalic.

I thought of making the yellow translucent, and putting a metalic background in before colour shifting....

Comments?

Using the gimp...

I'm no gimp expert myself... but what I did was to shift the whole car to the tan colour... then select the interior, invert the selection so I could de-saturate the body.

Then copy the tail light back from an untouched version...

I've found more advanced effects can be had by editing the 3 colour channels independently...

The Gimp is VERY powerful, if you can actually find the menu you want.

I found an easier way

First, start off by selecting the body of the rx-8 in the picture. This is
the only fussy part, so once you've got it, save it to a channel so you can
get it back later. (Select / Save to channel in the menu)

Next, choose Image / Desaturate from the menu. This will leave a gray-scale
version of the rx-8.

Create a transparent layer on top of the one with your rx-8. Leaving that
selection on, pick a color, then use bucket-fill on the new layer. Note that
you could use a pattern fill too, if that strikes your fancy. Anyway, change
the mode for your new layer to "color," and see how you like it. You may
want to tinker with the other modes too, to see which looks the best.

Happy GIMPing!
