I used to have that attitude too, when I first got mine...
oneday I was eating at Mcdonalds, and yes I parked all the way in the back , let alone there were a whole 4 peopel there. Low and behold this POS cavalier goes and parks next to the driver gets out and whammo slams his door into my fender(a-hole), he was argueing with his wife whom got out of the passenger side...
Anyway I was eating in thier outside area, stood up looked at the guy,,,
He knew what he did, his wife went in and he moved the car all the way up next to the handicap spot, next to where I was eating... He gets out looks at me, after I returned from looking at my car and just goes in and eats(what an a-hole),,,
I go to me car warm it up get out kick in his door, he sees me and keeps eating(what an a-hole)
I get in my car and drive away,,,
I guess he figured he deserved it and his car was a cavalier so no loss...
I've stopped parking far away from everyone since then and not one door ding or scratch on my car ,,, go figure...

Yeah, I've had a couple of situations like that before. The most recent was during the Christmas shopping season when I came outside in the freezing cold to find my RX-8 which I parked against a curb WAAAAAY away from the building (and other cars) with a huge extended cab truck less than 5 inches away from the drivers side door. There was no possible way I could open it let alone get into the drivers side door. I stared at it for a second before I decided to smash in all the windows of the truck with my fire extinguisher. Right before I did, some dumb blonde girl came up to the truck. I was like "Is this your truck?" (clearly ready to murder her and hide the body) She said, "Um....... ....yes?" I said, "Move it. I cannot get in my car." I've never seen someone move a truck that fast.
You should have thrown a brick through that guys windshield. I freaking hate people. Anyway, to the OP, I'm really sorry that happened, I just had all my wheels stolen a bit ago so I know how frustrating it is to be screwed over by someone else.
