Inaugural run of the SA RX-8 Club

So the newly formed SA RX-8 club had our first run on Sunday. It didn't REALLY go as planned though.

Our plan was to run from the Eastgate shopping centre in Johannesburg to the Hartbeespoort dam about 150killometers / 94miles away. We got about 30km / 19m in to the run when Phat8's accessory belt snapped...

irq5's Wash

The morning started out for me with a 5:30am car wash. It was all good until I got quite a fright when I heard a neighbors car handbrake creaking behind me and saw the car rolling out of it's parking bay. It stopped luckily but that's still not something you want to see first thing in the morning...

Phat8's Wash

So, we met up at Eastgate at 8am and Phat8's RX-8 needed a wash so we went past the car wash first...

The Breakdown

So, from there, it was on to the highway and about 30km / 19m out, doing about 200km/h / 125mph Phat8's belt snapped - brought our trip to an abrupt halt. But we got a chance to see the highway from a new Angle...

We got his 8 towed and ended up just going for lunch across the road from Eastgate where we started...

In 3 weeks time, we'll do our second run and hopefully get it right this time

Weather wasn't that hot - about 25c (77f). But Phat8 had his car in for work on the clutch and had asked to have the belt changed at the same time - which he didn't think to check before the run - and they obviously hadn't changed it...

Hopefully someone got a pic of the tall blonde on the hood or something!

The black 8 would always look good on stage, just not that stage.

Hey my car had to be towed last week since it had flooded when I tried to start it up on Monday morning. At least I was at home and not on the side of the road, that's a bummer for you guys! I hope the black 8 is back in commission by this weekend.

I suppose... Never known any different - at least the plate does fill up the space in the bumper - you don't get left with gaping area's to the side of the plate... Doesn't look bad at all in my opinion. To be honest, I wish I could do away with the plate entirely, and then flush the back bumper, but the fuzz wouldn't like that!

Nice one on the plates

No chase by the cops at least - I was chasing Phat8 to keep up Well - I was keeping up fine, but he does have a laser & radar detector in his car, so we felt relatively safe... Life only begins at 200km/h doesn it?

We'll definitely keep in mind the end of April so that we can all meet up and perhaps complete a full run this time
